I have to say, I like the fact that Lena dresses how she wants to dress and doesn't seem to care about how awkward she looks doing it. Let's face it, her looks are very unconventional when it comes to Hollywood standards. He new hairdo is terrible IMO (love the Jillian Michaels references...totally!) but she seems to like it, good for her. Maybe I'm just so burnt out on celebrity perfection that seeing someone like her is a refreshing change. I don't like her show that much but do like her interviews and writing (she has a funny piece in the latest New Yorker). Now if it's the hipster angle that irritates people, I can understand the annoyance a little more. I do not live in a place inhabited with hipsters so they haven't had a change to get under my skin yet.

WORD. Not interesting, edgy, hip, or flip; just amateur.

I think it's great if she wants to dress like she wants, but wearing clothes that fit you isn't a sin and it's not selling out. And if she feels that strongly, then stay home, don't show up, make more of a statement. Even when Sharon Stone went to the Oscars wearing a long skirt and a tee shirt she bought at the Gap, the shirt fit her.

I can't figure what she's on about, and that's what bugs me. Does she dress as part of her oevre? Is she lazy? Does she not care? Does she love the way she looks, or does she think she can't quite win, so why try? She goes part way there--I can't imagine that dresses just show up--but then doesn't finish the thought.

Okay and also: what is up with the open- mouth pose? It certainly does not help the situation. She looks so lovely here. Smile or close that mouth, sister!

In that looking-over-the-shoulder pose, it appears that she's being attacked from behind and about to be swallowed by the skirt. She looks fantastic in the 2012 Emmys photo.

She's tried to do the traditional awards show dress. This one is flattering. So's this one (scroll down). But she still gets criticized. And can you imagine wearing something like that for every awards show. If you don't care about style it would be one thing, but if you do, I can see the temptation to just say "screw it, I'm wearing a color." And maybe it is better for her career if she's a "wacky" dresser than one who looks good but unmemorable. This Emmy dress was especially bad though. The dress shirt/poufy skirt is a tough look even for a model.

My understanding is that the celebrities are brought sketches and asked which one they'd like. The problem with the Emmy dress was the skirt and top didn't match; also the skirt was too long for her and seemed to swallow her up.

She bugs me because I think most people on this thread are right about her. She does dress poorly and she is awkward on the red carpet. She is chubby and out of shape but not afraid to show her body. She is entitled and pretentious and seems likeable in interviews. I think I would like her and agree with her if I met her in person. But she is so unaware of her shortcomings as a person. She confuses me because I really want to dislike her but I have worn hiking boots to my in-laws country club and arrrhhhh. No matter how hard she tries she will never be seen as beautiful. I want her to attempt to pull herself together but I identify with her confusion about fashion. She's polarizing because she messes with ideas of femininity and how we judge people by their looks. She sends mixed messages. I don't think she's smart enough to articulate or analyze the conflicting messages. Then I just hate her for being a stupid rich kid and arrrhhhh! Stop pushing my buttons and go back to your stupid show

This. She is wearing what makes her feel good. She's a girly girly in terms of her clothes. If she were the size of Audrey Hepburn she'd get heaps of praise for her risky fashion choices. The bigger you are, the fewer options you have. You have "to dress for the body you have not the body you want." Find flattering shapes, colors, fabrics. Try to disguise the fact that you aren't a size 2. I think Lena's like "F that noise, I'll wear what I want to!" As a larger woman myself, I love her attitude.
I'm kind of surprised at how much I've come to like her. I used to really dislike her, and she can still be annoying as all get out, but my opinion shifted when she came out in support of Dylan Farrow. So, yay, Lena! Wear what you love, girl.
