I'm calling this as going down in John Carter-esque flames.
They started without a script and Will Smith's diva demands and rewrites caused the reported budget to balloon to $250 million. Throw in marketing and whatnot and this has to bring in Twilight/Avengers/Avatar level money to make a profit. And I just don't think it will.

You are likely right but I'm hoping against hope it brings back the fun spirit of the first film.

I'm going to see it mainly for Josh Brolin. He's like the perfect young Tommy Lee Jones.

I will probably see it. It can't be worse than the second one, right?

I saw this tonight, and it was...really good. Miles better than the second one. Josh Brolin was excellent, and there's a couple of awesome cameos I got a kick out of. They got a new writer for it (Etan Cohen, who co-wrote Tropic Thunder) so I think that made all the difference. The story actually made sense despite the time travel stuff, and there were actually some genuinely sweet moments. I think Sonnenfeld et al learned from their mistakes with the second one.

That's exactly how I felt! The second one was in the same comedic vein as the first, but felt really by-the-numbers and I didn't buy the love story at all. This one's not as original as the first movie of course, but I think they tried to put more heart into it.
I particularly liked some of the new aliens, and one of the cameos was really cute. Also, the villain seemed more dangerous than Lara Flynn Boyle's.

Boris was freakin' scary. Lara Flynn Boyle didn't seem all that threatening in her role.

Does Bill Hader have more than a cameo? This is kind of a deciding factor for me.

Not really, but it is a super awesome cameo- SPOILER ***He plays Andy Warhol, who is actually an undercover MIB and hates the persona he's been forced to adopt.***
