Much better chemistry between the two leads and Andrew Garfield is a better fit as Peter Parker, imo, than Tobey was, though I liked Tobey well enough.

Apparently Shailene Woodley has been cut from Spiderman 2 and MJ might be recast for the third film. Marc Webb claims he wanted to focus more on Peter and Gwen. I find this quite an astonishing decision. Isn't Woodley supposed to be the new JLaw with major projects coming up like Divergent (ugh) and The fault in our stars? My guess is that Woodley and Garfield look all wrong together as Peter/Spidey and MJ especially when compared to the great chemistry between him and Emma Stone.

I suspect they'll recast the part. If Divergent takes off she'll be too busy with that franchise to commit to another.

Emma Stone would've made a great Mary Jane, funny enough.

I feel sort of bad for Shailene Woodley, but I really hope they recast. IMO she's a really terrible choice for the part.

I hope she wasn't dumped because of all the Internet trolls saying she was too ugly to play Mary Jane. I actually do think she was miscast too but not because of her looks. I just think it needed someone more spunky. Emma Stone would have been perfect if she wasn't already playing Gwen Stacey.

Andrew Garfield wonders why can't Spidey make out with Michael B. Jordan?

Andrew Garfield has loved Spider-Man since he was a little kid. He can speak eloquently and at length about how open the Spider-verse is for interpretation. Recently, he says, he had a philosophical discussion with producer Matt Tolmach about Mary Jane or “MJ” to fans. “I was kind of joking, but kind of not joking about MJ,” he tells EW. “And I was like, ‘What if MJ is a dude?’ Why can’t we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It’s hardly even groundbreaking!…So why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?”

Garfield even has an actor in mind: “I’ve been obsessed with Michael B. Jordan since The Wire. He’s so charismatic and talented. It’d be even better—we’d have interracial bisexuality!” The star has clearly suggested a sexually flexible Spidey to his director, Marc Webb, as well. When EW later mentions the idea to Webb, the director says, “Michael B. Jordan, I know.” Oh, so he’s heard this too? “Uh, are you kidding?"

God bless him for riling up the neckbeards, if nothing else.

Incidentally, I read elsewhere that MBJ was considered for the role of Harry Osborn.  I think that could've been really cool.
