I just saw this last week, and I'm not sure if it's sticking around for extended play or if it's going to disappear soon, but I wanted to encourage Greecies to see it if their curiosity is piqued. Trailer. It's inexplicable but very beautiful. It's been getting Terrence Malick comparisons. When I went to see it, at some point I made a decision to just sit back and enjoy it without trying to follow or understand, and I had a very satisfying viewing experience. I also watched it in New Orleans, which I think contributed to the ambience of the movie. Highly recommend! Has anyone else seen it? What did you think?

I saw a few weeks ago in NYC because my coworker knew a lot of people who worked on it. It was beautiful, the actors were amazing--especially the two principals, the story was intriguing, pacing was good, and the sets/props were interesting. I really liked it when I was watching it.
That said, I haven't really thought about it afterwards, except to comment on it if someone mentioned they were going to watch it.

I just saw this yesterday and really, really loved it. It started off a bit slow for me and I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it but by the end I didn't want to leave the theater. Most of the cast are revelations. Much better than some actors in the biz who have been working for years and getting paid millions. I may try to see it again before it leaves theaters, tbh.

...but by the end I didn't want to leave the theater. I felt this way too. I loved the score and I just sat back and enjoyed the closing music. I might even buy the score.

I saw this movie today on Cinemax and at first I didn't know if I was going to like it, but I really, really did. It started off kind of slow but then it picked up. I wondered if the storm was supposed to be Hurricane Katrina.

Glad you liked it, Neurochick! I bought the DVD when it came out, and I gotta say, the making-of featurette was just about as beautiful as the movie itself. And I'm not into DVD extras at all.
I had a good conversation last month about whether the director was "allowed" to tell this story that wasn't his or didn't resonate with his background or culture, and whether it's just another "magical Negro" movie. I personally do not think so, for a variety of reasons, but it was good to have a discussion about it with someone who gives a crap about such things.
