I searched and searched to see if a thread had been made yet, but I couldn't find it. The official trailer was released. This is one of my favorite books and I was a little hesitant when I read that they were making this into a movie. To me, I would categorize Life of Pi as one of those books that will ALWAYS be better in your imagination, and all the movie magic in the world is not enough for you to even attempt to makea movie out of it. I have to say though, that official trailer looks great and I can't wait to see it.

Like you, I am very ambivalent. But I am definitely excited to see it. It looks beautiful, if nothing else.

IIRC, the book was slow moving, and then really really really good, so I'm looking forward to this. No idea how they'll do it though, even after seeing the trailer. But Ang Lee is on my Yes List.

That trailer looks gorgeous. I'm officially interested after pretty much writing off this movie-version (I really liked the book).

Stunningly gorgeous to look at. Like the book, a little slow in the beginning, but the main section is astonishing. Beautiful in 3D.

This was probably the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. It was wonderful. I was reading up on it, and apparently the young man who played teenage Pi had never acted before. He did really well.

Just saw this today, and loved it. I'd heard others saying the beginning was slow, but I didn't find that at all. The situation has to be set up.
I can see Oscars for cinematography and I wouldn't be surprised if Lee takes the director's Oscar.
Gerard Depardieu is enormous. Like, he's a huge mountain of humankind. Between the huge body and long stringy hair, he's like a male version of Honey Boo Boo's mother. I cannot reconcile that he was ever considered sexy.

Just saw it and loved it. Visually stunning and I loved that Richard Parker finally warmed up to Pi. Though I thought for sure he would try to kill him when they were very weak.
