I think the big deal has been more about her age. She has been shaving 6 years off her age while making snarky comments about "older" actresses like rose Byrne (same age as her) and Kristin Wiig (who is a couple of years older).

It bothers me more that she claimed her given name was Rebel than lying about her age.

I could accept that the snarky comments about these so-called older actresses are her being sort of self-deprecatingly snarky. But I don't know if that works when her real age is being kept on the down-low. Then again, I'm not sure she's necessarily the one spreading the fake date. Wilson has discussed the subject in previous interviews, and it is clear there is a question mark over the comedian's exact age. In a 2011 article in Melbourne's Herald Sun, the author writes that "online sources" put Wilson's age at 28.

"That's wrong, and as my mum says, 'You're a lady, don't say your age'," Wilson is quoted as saying.

Having said that, I don't think this is exactly a surprise to many people in Australia. She's been known here for at least 12 or 13 years, and I'm pretty sure she wasn't 16 or 17 when she first appeared on tv here. But she has always been called Rebel ever since she first came to be known.

I am absolutely willing to believe that Rebel is her real name. Again from butterfly's second article link:

In the aforementioned Herald Sun article, Wilson also clears up a mystery around her names. "At school we went under our middle names usually. I have two - Melanie Elizabeth - so I was never under Rebel," she is quoted as saying.

I can believe that. Especially because her siblings are called Liberty, Ryot and Annachi. Surely it's more likely that they had just had odd, hippy dippy parents (and went by other names) than that the four of them went in on some weird adult name change agreement...?

It occurred to me that if Rebel isn't her real name, it's possible Ryot, Annachi and Liberty are elaborations, too, but I really don't know anything about Australian popular culture. I don't see why Rebel couldn't be her real name, however.

I'm still not invested in this as an actual scandal, but I have to confess I'm a tiny bit relieved to know that she is more likely 30 something, because that was the vibe I got when I first noticed her ca. Bridesmaids. I hate being wrong! And it was a mix of looks but also demeanor, and I can't really explain it.

I really think it is a bit silly to lie about your age, pretty easy to find the truth.

Depending on who you believe, the woman currently starring in Pitch Perfect 2 as Fat Amy is either a 29-year-old named Rebel Wilson, a 35-year-old named Rebel Wilson, or a 36-year-old named Melanie Bownds.

I like her generally, so right now I'm just shrugging. It's a nice distraction from bigger, more horrible lies.

I'm just laughing/side eyeing her "friend" from HS, "She's not 29, her name is not Rebel, and she wasn't even funny in HS. Like....we care? My professional name is not Famvir, I was painfully shy in HS, everyone thinks I'm younger than I am, and who cares what some HS bitch thought about me back then?

BTW, I loved her in Bridesmaids as the room-mate's sister with the infected tattoo/peas, who bathed with her brother. So there's that, I didn't know her name, age, or if she was funny in HS, but she stole that movie in one of the smallest roles. If her name was Melanie Rasputin and she was 42, I'd still love her for that part..

Yeah. I just don't find her funny at all either. A lot of her roles rely on fat jokes or being annoying... she just doesn't do it for me. I also can't imagine being upset about her lying about her age.
