She looks really good, and not like she's been starving herself.

She made it entirely about health not weight and had a realistic goal.

She made it entirely about health not weight and had a realistic goal. Agree. She's been calling this her "year of health" or something like that and her goal weight is clearly not to be a size 2. I think her approach is super positive and really admirable.

So she’s really 40, right? How long has she been lying about her age?

Yes, she's 40. She knocked 7 years off of her age when she went to Hollywood. And her real name is Melanie. Somehow she won a $3.66 million lawsuit against an Australian tabloid for publishing these truths. And then upon appeal, her settlement was reduced to $600,000 and she was ordered to pay the rest back with massive interest and pay the tabloid's legal fees. In the end, I think she may have wound up with less money than she started with.
Between her weird case and Geoffrey Rush winning millions for a truthful article reporting on his sexual harassment of colleagues, I don't know WTF is going on with Australia's courts.

I wish her well on her health journey, but I recently watched The Hustle, the movie she did w/ Anne Hathaway, and I'm officially over her 'dumb, sloppy, big girl' shtick. That whole movie was a big WTF but I held on to the bitter end hoping for it to get better. It did not. Maybe the weight loss will result in some better roles for her or she can break out of the typecasting. I stayed far away from Isn't It Romantic because it looked stupid. I'm all for larger actresses getting cast as romantic comedy leads, but so often it feels like they make her the butt of the joke, and that's not empowering or funny.

It's fine--and from what I recall there's no 'haha, she's the fat girl' jokes in it--but it's also totally forgettable.

I watched The Hustle not too long ago and I, too, was really disappointed. It looked pretty good in previews and I adore Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, but it was such an inferior version of DRS. The writing was so weak. But, yeah, they relied a lot on laughing at the gross, fat girl and that was not fun to watch.

(It's hard to remember because it was so, so forgettable.) Her mother instilled general low self esteem in her as a child so that's what she needed to overcome for plot purposes. It was a likable cast and I was disappointed that the movie wasn't better.
