Does catching part of an episode at the gym count? I had no idea borderline expired food auctions were a thing.

This show is one of the signs of the Apocalypse. My friends were joking about this but it didn't click in my head that it was an actual show. I caught an episode and was horrified.

I live in the Deep South. These people give all of us a bad name.

I've only seen parts of a few episodes. But I'm fascinated by the viewing public's reaction to this family and this show.

Heh, I live in the Deep South too, and all my students say the same thing. "We're sooo embarrassed." I live about 2 hours from where it's filmed, but so far the closest I've gotten is a student who has a friend who knows them.
Also, one of my classes is on my list, so I made them watch a short clip the other day and analyze it. Mwahahahaha. I played it three times.
I don't watch it (honest!) but it's crossed my path enough that I'm alarmingly informed about it. There are articles comparing it to other classist interpretations of hillbilly life in other generations, an analysis of the observation that a young white child speaks like a sassy Black woman (and what that means). Oh, and apparently the granddaughter has a double thumb.

Batboy loves this show. He tweeted that he wanted Honey Boo Boo to be his swagger coach.

The only thing I know about this show is what I see on The Soup. Once Joel McHale called the mother a giant thumb it is all I can see now when I look at her face.

Yeah, I can't get on board with this show. I'm a transplanted Southerner and I'm embarrassed for these folks. My aunt and uncle are friends with the people on Bayou Billionaires, another "let's laugh at the rednecks" reality show, and they are pretty embarrassed for their friends, who they say are nice and not stupid. I've never watched Bayou Billionaires, so I don't know what these people are like on television. The whole redneck reality trend is gross on so many levels.

I watched the first five episodes...I'm horrified but also fascinated. I will say, they do all seem to genuinely love one another and when Honey Boo Boo isn't acting for the cameras, she comes across as thoughtful and polite.
I'll show myself out.
