I went to see this with friends this weekend and thought it was lazy and pretty bad. The actors didn't even look motivated to be there and the plot- which in a movie like this I admit is not that important - was just silly. When you do a movie about a marriage which is a romcom you generally have a couple of choices on how you want to go. 1) you really show the couple as deeply in love and make it all about them getting together and overcoming some misunderstanding/plot device to find happiness or 2) you don't spend any time really setting up the couple as it is really about their idiotic/controlling parents and so you make it hilarious instead and everyone forgets how stupid the story was and just laughs. The Big Wedding was the 2) type of movie but instead of being funny it was just sad, lazy and possibly the greatest waste of talent in a movie in the last decade. No one really tries and the whole thing looks like some sort of half baked acting seminar that was put on by famous actors at a lake resort paid to act in the movie for the sake of the audience. I will say this, Susan Sarandon looked great for a 66 year old woman. Has she had work done recently? Romcom lovers flame away. Seriously though - there was some major talent here slumming so low I could see their pajama bottoms showing.

This is getting a 6% rating at Rotten Tomatoes and it opened at #4 this weekend. I think it's officially a bomb.
What happened to Topher Grace? Remember when he was the goofy, charming guy? I would've never expected Ashton Kutcher to have more success than him.

I thought this movie was so offensive, casting wise. When one of the movies running "jokes" is that the brides parents don't like her husband to be because he is from South America and they don't want brown grandchildren, casting an actual Latino of color and not some white bread British actor would have been the better choice. And I like Ben Barnes, but just no. It was just so so bad.

1. Toby Maguire got there first, and 2) Kutcher obviously made a deal with a crossroads demon. Sorry, I've watched too many episodes of Supernatural.
Anyway, the movie was pretty lame. Robin Williams brought a few mild chuckles, but that was it. I don't see The Big Wedding 2 - Electric Boogaloo in our future. It was a stupid, charmless, insulting mess that made the average Lifetime movie look Oscar-worthy.

I would have much rather seen him in Great Gatsby than Tobey Maguire.

I would have much rather seen him in Great Gatsby than Tobey Maguire. But, alas, Topher hasn't been besties with Leonardo DiCaprio since 1987.
