I kinda feel like I am the only one that watches kinda precious, heart-tugging shows. Mods, I did do a search! I want to support this show- and it's pretty good for being ABC Family! Mr. Narm somewhat watched a couple episodes with me and said (to no surprise to me) that he wished it was on HBO, for an edge factor. I actually could do well with less edge these days. I'm only a couple eps in, but I do like some of the story lines- I think that while of course this is Hollywood, it's still rings of realistic scenarios. I also really like the foster parents being lesbians- wasn't ABC the uber Christian network too long ago? Also, JLo is an executive producer, and this makes me like her (I never really disliked her; just didn't really register with me either way) and see her in a less shallow light. It's not a perfect show, but I'm digging it so far. Anyone else watching?

I am also watching and loving this show. It's heart-warming without being too sappy. I am kind of in shock that this show even made it to air. It's got a lesbian inter-racial couple and 1/2 the cast isn't white, which is shocking these days. Then again, ABC Family seems to be the one network/basic cable channel that pushes the envelope a bit. Pretty Little Liars has a main character, Emily, who is a lesbian and a minority and she has had more than 1 love interest. It also has some secondary characters who are lesbians and aren't involved with Emily. Switched At Birth is centered around a deaf girl and part of the cast is Hispanic. The show has scenes in Spanish and ASL.
I have to admit that I am impressed with JLo for producing this show.
The ratings for this show are good, so it looks like it will stick around. Now, I just need Twisted to fail so The Lying Game can get a 3rd season.

I am curious to find out how much JLo is involved in the production. I like a slightly heartwarming show. I was a huge Six Feet Under (see: narm) and I loved the Sopranos, but somewhere along the way I kinda lost my desire for the cable shows that are Serious and Violent. Not sure what that says about me, but I tried to watch Dexter and True Blood, and just couldn't do the violence. I'm no prude and don't begrudge anyone tv shows with blood, gore, etc. I just want some entertainment that does make me think about things (foster care, transitioning youth) but that I can get a little lost in at the same time. I know it is not reflective of the experience too many of the kids in our country face, but I am so glad someone is trying to tell a story about some of the issues. I'm for anything that can bring a face to the kids that are too easily hidden or ignored. I'm very interested to see where they take the story lines. I'm a big old Parenthood fan, too. Seriously, I pretty much watch this, Parenthood, some PBS and Bill Maher. I'm old and dorky. Apparently rambly, too... I may check out those other shows, too, TD! I'm pleased with ABCFamily so far. I'm secure in my cheesy old fogeyness. I'm glad you posted, TD, it was lonely in here with the tumbleweeds blowing by...

I am a huge Parenthood fan as well. I love the Julia storyline with her attempt at surrogacy, fostering and now adopting an older son. That show is so well done except for any storyline involving Lauren Graham's character. If I have to sit through one more of Sarah's new career/love triangle stories I am going to lose it.
I can't really do the violence or the depressing shows any longer. I still watch True Blood but I end up mostly fast-forwarding it.

So, I am a totally bad lady, because when Wyatt jumped Liam, and Brandon came hauling ass over to the fight, I was totally rooting/hoping he was going to jump in. I know I'm not supposed to condone violence, especially amongst youth, but I was so okay with the beat down. So much for me not being able to do violence.
TD, I agree about Julia from Parenthood. I LOVE the older adoption story line. I also am sick of Lauren Graham's character, unless she is around John Corbett. ;(
