ETA: I just read that Crazy Eyes and Taystee have been promoted to regulars next season. Yay! Awesome news! That has to guarantee a Crazy Eyes flashback, right? And even more Taystee and Poussey.

Grain of salt - but someone on ONTD said one of the show's writers instagramed a pic of a script she was working on and written in the notes was "young Crazy Eyes". I hope that it's true!

It was hard to watch, but also an eye-opener; I've never thought about pregnant inmates before and how they are dealt with during/after the whole nine months and keeping the mother in contact with the baby.

Having read some of the reviews of the book on Amazon, I can only assume that she never would have been bothered if everyone decided to ignore her. In fact, she comes off as someone who almost went in with the idea that she was going to write a book about it to impress her moneyed friends with. I can't even imagine that the confrontation with Pennsyltucky actually happened. I'm reading the book right now and this is probably the most accurate review of it (from what I've read so far): Certainly, I knew that was sensationalized and the real Piper's story was much more subdued... But this book was still disappointing. While her journey and insights were interesting, Kerman writes in a way that never draws you in. They say when you write you should show your readers, not tell them. Unfortunately, this book felt like 200+ pages of being told, with disjointed attempts at showing. And while it followed the linear timeframe of her sentence, I felt the book lacked any real arc or theme to make it more than a compendium of delayed and analyzed blog entries. She wasn't even in prison with "Alex." Unless the book reveals it somewhere along the second half, it doesn't even tell how she left Nora/Alex in real life. That was reduced to about two sentences. Basically, "I got my head out of my ass and went back to the US! I met Larry and we were the most boring people alive."

Laura Prepon apparently leaving OITNBShe'll be around for a few episodes to "wrap up Alex's storyline" and then she's apparently gone (Netflix is being cagey and refusing to confirm her departure, but they ain't exactly denying it, either). Don't know if it was the producers or Prepon who decided this. I don't know why, but this feels like "Prepon took a stand to get more money and it backfired" to me. I don't know why she'd walk away from the biggest success she's had in her career for a while (unless she decided she was super-uncomfortable with the lesbian stuff or something), and I don't know why the producers would suddenly decide they don't need Alex anymore. I don't think it will make a huge difference if they do it properly. Alex and Piper were on the outs anyway, and all the supporting characters are interesting enough to keep things moving. The only thing it will really affect is the Piper/Larry stuff, since their problems seemed to be largely Alex-based. But it's not like she can't find another friend/girlfriend in the clink.

My guess is that it was the producers' decision. Considering they bumped other actresses up to regular status, it makes sense they'd need to trim the fat. Other characters are for more compelling and while I do think Prepon and Schilling have great chemistry, the character of Alex isn't very interesting on her own. Alex/Prepon are fairly universally ranked as the weakest link on the show and they probably figure they can easily replace her with a better character and actress. I wonder if they will tie it into the Pennsatucky beatdown. Alex could choose to take the fall for Piper.

I just finished watching this on Netflix this morning, and now I have no idea what to do with myself.

Batguy and I are watching this and loving it. I love how fully fleshed out the characters are. And I like that it's touching and compelling without a heavy layer of doom hanging over it, like some other dramas. I can watch it and be moved and entertained by it and not be stressed out.

I have only seen two eps so far, so I am not even going to read this thread, for fear of being spoiled. But I am watching and loving! I'll come back at the end and read all your insightful insights!

Unless they want to continue the yo-yoing of feelings between the two leads, there's no reason for her to stick around. It would get repetitive and annoying.
