I am the first person to jump ship on a show that is faltering. (Usually after season 4 of a show, I'm out.) And I still really enjoy this show and don't have any issues with the quality. The main hallmark of this season is that in terms of plot development, it pretty much treaded water. But if you enjoy the characters and the writing of the show in general, this is more of the same.
And there was certainly some rough material, but nothing that traumatized me (and I was traumatized multiple times last season.)

Overall, I liked the season, and despite the fact that it all takes place during a prison riot, I thought it was actually lighter and funnier than last season (minus some stuff that didn't really hang well together, like the Piscatella stuff mentioned upthread). I actually thought they got just about the right amount of Piper and Alex this time around. At least I didn't spend a whole lot of time wanting to slap them. Daya, however, remained annoying as hell and if this is the last we see of her, I would be fine with that. She really doesn't grow as a character. I don't know why Gloria wastes her time trying to help her - she ain't worth it. Flaca and Maritza were good comic relief. Taystee continues to be MVP, especially with Poussey gone. Suzanne really does need to learn to stay away from Maureen (she's scary). I hate what's going on with Pennsatucky and Coates, and I really wish that Boo was able to slap some sense into her. Angie and Leanne (the meth-heads) really, really are the worst. At least at one point they seemed to realize how terrible they are, though I doubt that revelation will stick. They need a comeuppance. And the season really does end on a "Now what?" - (spoilers): {Spoiler}I'm sure the characters who were holed up will survive - they are the main players. But how will next season play out? Will they all make their way back to Litchfield or will we follow them in separate prisons?
Pennsatucky is gonna be in big trouble once she's caught, but one I'm not so sure will be caught is Chang. She just slipped out the hole in the fence to parts unknown. I wouldn't all be surprised to see her still on the outside next season.

Finished the season over the weekend. I ended up liking it more than I thought (after the first few eps I was pretty underwhelmed), but far, far, FAR too much of the meth heads. Also, though I appreciated the screen time being more evenly split, there was a lot of focus on characters who, before this season, were barely in the background and that bored me.
Also, one peeve: in the last episode, the police claimed the missing count of prisoners was 10. It should've been 11, as there were actually 12 unaccounted for (10 at the pool plus Pennsatucky and Cheng) and then Linda (from Purchasing) was mistakenly counted, bringing the count to 11. Sloppy writing.

The nerd in me was wondering about that when I watched the episode, but I had something else going on and didn't go back and count (which I totally would have, because...nerd). My actual thought was, "Are they counting Chang? Because I don't think they are..."

Yeah, maybe that's sort of the gag: that Chang is so good at blending in/being forgettable, that they'll never miss her.

I'm halfway through the season. I miss a lot of the characters who were sent to Ohio. Badison's terrible Boston accent is driving me crazy.
I still like the show, but I agree with the article I read that said the creators really need to start winding it down. Hopefully Season 7 will be the last and we'll get resolution.
I don't know what timeframe the show is suppose to have covered so far, but in real life Piper Kerman served a year and this feels like a whole lot longer. The whole Piscatella hostage situation was ridiculous, and the riot isn't all that realistic either. I hope the show gets back to basics next season.

Where's Chang? Where's Yoga Lady? (Forgot her name.) Where did the meth heads wind up? I hate loose ends.
And since we had the "Martha in prison" character, I was sort of hoping we'd get a crazy former kids' dance teacher. Oh, well.

Chang escaped from the prison during the riot and MCC has not yet figured it out. Due to the MCC lady (forgot her name) disguising herself as a prisoner during the riot, the head count after the riot was wrong. Natalie Figueroa figured this out and realized there is a prisoner missing, but there has been no follow up yet.
All of the other prisoners we didn't see this season (Yoga lady, Maritza, the meth heads) were sent to a different facility in Ohio. We may not ever hear from any of them again.
Having now seen the ending, it was obvious that Flores was not going to get a happy ending. I was expecting that Diablo was going to freak out and not show up to pick her up. What happened instead was a little...it was a heavy-handed shoehorning in of current events.

Wait... I thought Pennsatucky was the missing prisoner? After Figueroa realized the issue with the count, that's when her picture was released to the media. I assumed Chang was with the Ohio bunch, although I admit details are fuzzy for me because I usually binge the show. I know Chang has gotten through the fence before, but I have to think she is accounted for somewhere off-camera.
