I've seen people put that dress on both best and worst lists.
I really like it, but I think it would only work on her (or women who looked like her).

The thieves discovered the pearls were fake so they retuned the dress to the hotel and told the cops where it was! Then they called TMZ (because of course).
What a week this has been-between the "what color is this dress, the escaped llamas, and Lupita's stolen dress!

What a week this has been-between the "what color is this dress, the escaped llamas, and Lupita's stolen dress! From what I read, the thieves took a couple of the pearls to an expert in LA who told them they were fake. I'm wondering if the expert was smart enough to recognize that the pearls were likely stolen from the dress (I'll bet every dealer in LA had a picture of them) and that's why the dress was returned. I would find it pretty surprising if Calvin Klein would try to pass off an Oscar gown with fake pearls. It would damage the brand's reputation.

A pearl dress would hurt to sit in wouldn't it?

A pearl dress would hurt to sit in wouldn't it? Only the bodice was pearl encrusted. The skirt was some kind of iridescent, beaded fabric.

It might be comfortable! Im not sure if it was here or somewhere else, but someone described sitting in a dress like that like sitting on one of those car bead seat things that are good for you back.
Anyway, she said is was super comfy to wear and sit in. So whatever they did worked, hah.

An interesting turn of events: Apparently the only person who claimed the pearls were real was Lupita's stylist; Calvin Klein said they NEVER made that claim. They are in fact, fake. Sucks to be you, thieves. You got fooled, too (and anyone else who cared whether they were real or fake).

Hah. I was wondering about that. Wasn't the dressed priced at $150,000? Wouldn't a dress made with real pearls cost a lot more than that?

When celebrities are loaned expensive jewelry they are usually assigned a bodyguard by the jewelry company to keep it from being stolen and then the bodyguard takes possession of it at the end of the night or early the next morning.
If Lupita's dress had really been worth anything, it would not have been left unattended in a hotel room - even if Lupita had wanted to.
It is funny to see the curtain drawn back on the Wizard of Oz stuff going on here. Lupita's stylist telling everyone the dress was worth "between $150,000 and $10 million" probably did make Lupita seem more glamorous and important.
