This actress/documentary film maker, is receiving raves for her feature film acting debut in director Steve McQueen's adaptation of the historical memoir, 12 Years a Slave. Aside from her obvious talent, what I think I like about Lupita most is her almost regal self-assurance. The gifted actress Viola Davis has admitted in interviews that only in the past few years has she totally overcome the cultural baggage - loaded on her by both whites and blacks - that had her practically apologizing to the movie industry for being a dark-skinned black woman who does not look like Halle Berry or Paula Patton. No matter that she could act circles around both these women. She felt inadequate because her type of striking beauty just was not appreciated. I don't sense any of that kind of self-doubt in Miss Nyong'o. And Lord knows, there shouldn't be. Her natural beauty and sophistication makes some of the sisters from reality TV look like overly made-up drag queens with their 3 pound weaves and makeup that looks like it was applied with a trowel. Reality TV ladies, this is how you do it. The buzz for Lupita and TYAS is so loud that she may land an Oscar nomination for her first film.

My goodness. Perfect face, perfect body, a gorgeous smile, a clutch that she'd better send to me in the mail, and rave reviews for her movie. Live that life, young lady.

I had no idea who she was, so I did some Googling. Dang, she is fresh-faced and really lovely. How old is she?

That is a bomb-ass clutch. It certainly would cost more a than any dress I could afford to pair with it. I Love that Prada dress as well.
I haven't seen her age listed anywhere, but I'm guessing mid-to-late twenties.
She's had time to get her Bachelors degree, start graduate school, take time off to complete her documentary and tour with it, finish her graduate degree AND act on Kenyan television.

She is both beautiful & driven. I don't think she has the uphill battle that Viola Davis had because while They are similar hues that are underrepresented in Hollywood Lupita looks like a model & Viola is much more 'real person' looking. It's a shame that talent has so many factors working against it in Hollywood.

Never heard of her but she's gorgeous! Educated too? Excellent! Hollywood needs more like her.

I just heard about her a couple of days ago as the Fashion Spot is raving about her. She is beautiful and I hope she doesn't start with the tired ass weaves, etc. Her hair looks perfectly fine.

Dang, I hadn't heard of her either. But she's already got that Red Carpet style nailed! Anxiously awaiting her next project and/or event attendance to see what she'll come up with next.
