This actress/documentary film maker, is receiving raves for her feature film acting debut in director Steve McQueen's adaptation of the historical memoir, 12 Years a Slave. Aside from her obvious talent, what I think I like about Lupita most is her almost regal self-assurance. The gifted actress Viola Davis has admitted in interviews that only in the past few years has she totally overcome the cultural baggage - loaded on her by both whites and blacks - that had her practically apologizing to the movie industry for being a dark-skinned black woman who does not look like Halle Berry or Paula Patton. No matter that she could act circles around both these women. She felt inadequate because her type of striking beauty just was not appreciated. I don't sense any of that kind of self-doubt in Miss Nyong'o. And Lord knows, there shouldn't be. Her natural beauty and sophistication makes some of the sisters from reality TV look like overly made-up drag queens with their 3 pound weaves and makeup that looks like it was applied with a trowel. Reality TV ladies, this is how you do it. The buzz for Lupita and TYAS is so loud that she may land an Oscar nomination for her first film. May? Word is that she could win.

The movie is getting rave reviews and I really want to see it. But I have also heard that its a devastating story. Lupita is beautiful and I hope this leads to big things for her.

Great red carpet look. I hope she does win the Oscar.
The book is pretty powerful, ladybug. I'd suggest reading it before you go to the movie. That way, you'll be somewhat prepared for all that occurs.

That way, you'll be somewhat prepared for all that occurs. This is a Steve McQueen film we're talking about. I don't know that any kind of mental preparation helps in the end. Both of his previous films were hard for me to watch.... well made, beautifully acted, but raw, and not something I could stomach again. I'm looking forward to this. I'm bringing Kleenex...... I'm kind of hoping she and Fassy get together. I think they'd make a pretty couple, and I don't think she's the type to take sh*t from anyone.

I'd forgotten that she's friends with Garret Dillahunt. I remember him posting photos from the set showing the two of them playing momblety-peg. Just one more reason for me to like her because Garret's a great guy and a very underrated actor. Here she talks about her role and the experience of landing the role. Garret is also friends with Brad with whom he worked on The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Garret seems to befriend everyone. The momblety-peg shot. I think he was joking but I'm not sure.

I thought she had the best look of the night. Of course, as gorgeous as she is, I think she could pull off wearing anything. Golden Globes 2014I'm just sad that she didn't win. She still has a chance at the Oscar, but it's starting to feel like Jennifer Lawrence will probably sweep everything now. While I think Lawrence is talented too, I just think that Nyong'o would have benefitted from an Oscar win more, since the Academy Awards, well any Hollywood award show really, are about who or what the best was.

I wouldn't count her out. The globes are much less of an Oscar predictor than they were 20 years ago or so. I think the various Guild awards will show us more which way the votes are leaning.

I love that my who has not seen the movie and had never seen the movie before tonight, saw her in the background onstage and asked "Who is that? She is stunning!" She really is flawless.

I agree. She definitely had the best dress of the night, and she is absolutely stunning. I was also sad that she didn't win. I don't think that the awards are always a reflection of who or what was the best, as sometimes it seems that its about who is most popular or about making up for someone not winning in the past.
