Movie Info from Rotten Tomatoes:
I watched this over the weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that JGL wrote and directed the movie. If this is the first movie he's written and directed, he did a really great job. There was a lot of porn, you mainly just see women's boobs and their facial reactions while doing the porn and that's about it, but these things were shown throughout the movie. My friend who watched it with me, was uncomfortable by the fifth scene where JGL's character was watching porn. The movie was laugh out loud funny, JGL was adorable, but in a Jersey Shore-ish kind of way. The plot though centered around his life (including porn and his penchant for doing a weekly confession in church), you realize that his character's obsession with porn confused him into thinking that what he needs and wants are the same thing, but by the end of the movie, his character realizes that what he thought he wanted in life isn't really what he needed.
I don't regret having paid full price for the movie because it really did entertain me and at the end of a movie, that's really all you can hope for, but I probably would have preferred to watch this matinee so the ticket would have been cheaper.
Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to "pull" a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn't compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she's determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
