Jesus, it felt like 12 years waiting for this movie to f*cking win an award.

I was lucky to receive this through the SAG Awards; this way, I could watch it at home and pause it from time to time. IMVVHO, it's hands down the best film of the year, and I hope the Academy recognizes it as such. Yes, it's horrifying in its brutality; yes, you may not be able to watch it in its entirety, but I hope you can. Every aspect of the film is magnificently realized, and it's a remarkable achievement. I hope Steve, Chiwetel and Lupita and the rest of the nominees win their respective and absolutely deserved Oscars.

I suspect that best director will get broken out there somewhere to spread the love around, so unfortunately I can see McQueen getting denied on that front. But I hope it wins best picture, and Chiwetel and Lupita deserve to win.

After the SAG awards, I'm getting a sinking feeling that the film will be lucky to come away with a best supporting actress win at The Oscars. I don't get this obsession with American Hustle. Ugh.

I finally watched this with a friend tonight and the theater was so silent. The movie was so brutal. Chiwetel and Lupita deserve to win and Steve too. I am going to need a few days to absorb it.

Vanity Fair tried to find out what happened to the real Patsey. TLDR: author is still looking, there are no clearcut answers. Still a fascinating article about how the lives of slaves just disappeared from history. So happy it won best picture at the Oscars. I wonder what is up with John Ridley and Steve McQueen. They didn't shake hands or hug when John won and Steve looked like he was fake clapping for him. Neither thanked the other in their acceptance speeches and John was way at the back when they were all on stage during the best picture win.

Nikki Finke said they have some sort of argument over credits (on the screenplay, I think), hence the cold shoulder. And so true on the slaves just disappearing from history. Solomon himself disappeared just a few years after his return to New York and the circumstances of his death are unknown. They don't know if he was kidnapped again or murdered or just fell off the face of the earth.
