I don't think only projects for/about women have cornered the market on derision. Back when Ain't It Cool News was a big deal, the fanboy reaction to press releases/announcements was totally poked fun at.
According to Emma Thompson, she got a lot of angry hate mail from Jane Austen fans over the casting of Hugh Grant in "Sense and Sensibility" because people thought he was too handsome for Edward. Fan backlash happens even on highbrow projects!
Jamie Dornan is married to Millie Warner?!?! They're gonna have a CUTE kid. That's some pretty, pretty genes getting mixed together.

Also, this board has a lot of woman on it who enjoy talking about pop culture. This is a book that is marketed at women, and the movie will presumably be marketed at us which isn't common (unless it's a rom com). Michael Bay doesn't make shitty movies for women. In fact, most shitty movies that get media attention at this level are made for teenage boys and, on the pretty rare occasion, teen girls. So of course we're going to have a lot to say about 50. That is the excuse that's used for everything: 50 Shades, Twilight, Girls, Kim Kardashian. "We're women, so we just prefer to talk about other women. And say negative things." It's not just mainly female boards or female commenters who are constantly deriding these things/people. Seems awfully coincidental that both men and women can come together and mutually agree on these public punching bags: other women.

Seems like this thread has gone dreadfully off-topic.
Anyway, I finally finished The Fall, and I'm with those who hope that Jamie being in 50 Shades doesn't derail season two... I will be so sad. The ending totally left me hanging! LOVED the show.

Okay. I don't think what I was saying was an excuse, and there's plenty of Michael Bay shit-talking too if you check out the Megan Fox thread. But I was offering up a reason why people enjoy talking about this particular upcoming movie. I wasn't talking about actors in that last comment.
Anyway, this 50 Shades talk isn't a case of ragging on other women. This is a case of hating on a book/movie being marketed to women. Some woman here aren't fans of the book/movie being marketed to them.
And from what I can tell, folks here have been saying nice things about all the actors cast in 50...
ETA: Isn't Christian Grey blonde? Do you think they'll make him dye his hair a la Tom Cruise in Interview with the Vampire?

The ending totally left me hanging! LOVED the show. This and Charlie Hunnam's threads have always been off-topic; way more about the book/movie/author than about the subject of the thread. But I'm totally up for talking more about Jamie. I've read a couple of interviews with him and he seems to have a sense of humour. I remember he described his modelling days as "leaning against walls, looking depressed." The Fall also got some criticism for being misogynistic - it is another one of those shows that seems to luxuriate in the images of dead women - so he's got some experience at handling controversy.

Personally, I couldn't give a toss about this guy or this ridiculous film of an equally ridiculous book, but I DO care when threads derail like this. Keep it on topic, and maintain civility to the others here, or find another place to troll. Your call.

He seems like a good choice - it'll be a big career boost for him, and they scored a super hot guy who's a decent actor. I haven't read the books, but I'm glad that this movie has brought Jamie Dornan to my attention because he is gorgeous. This photo of him and Kiera Knightley out for a walk is so pretty it looks staged.

I had never seen him in anything prior to The Fall, so based on that alone, I thought he was a brilliant actor. I can see the parallels between that role and Christian Gray, so I agree that he's a great choice. I mean, the books (I only made it through about 75 pages of the first one) were horrifically awful, but if he looks pretty and shows a little skin, I might catch a few scenes of the movie when it airs on HBO. So...hey. That's not so bad.

As has been said, this guy really has little to lose if this movie is a giant bomb/big joke. It's a win/win for him. A point of kind of weirdness--given EL James creepy infatuation with Robert Pattinson (which is why she wrote these books in the first place)--is that Jamie is friends with Pattinson. Or at least he was--enough of one at one point to go on New Year's Eve holiday with him and his friends.
