I saw it the other day, it was pretty good. I was really impressed by Colin Farrell and the little girl who played young P.L. Travers.

Reviews seem to be pretty good so far. I wasn't able to see this last night so I now have to wait for Monday. BUT, it did give me a chance to re-watch Mary Poppins, one of my favorites. I haven't read the books before, so I think I may do that after seeing SMB. I am a HUGE Disney fan so I'm very excited to see Tom Hanks's portrayal of Walt. And I love the casting choices of Jason Schwartzman and B.J. Novak as the Sherman brothers.

Double-posting, but oh, I finally saw this and loved it! Emma Thompson was wonderful of course. Tom Hanks was great but it was still hard for me to see him as Walt Disney and not Tom Hanks.
This movie has solidified for me the fact that there NEEDS to be a movie made about the Sherman brothers (other than the documentary)! And honestly Walt Disney is long overdue for a big-screen biopic as well.

I saw it on New Year's Eve. I cried throughout the entire film-- which really caught me by surprise. Emma and Tom were fantastic.
The only quibble, if you want to call it that, is I wanted to know something about Helen Goff. When did she come to England? Was she actually married? Why change her name to P.L. (Pamela)? I realize it has nothing to do with the story of making Mary Poppins, but it left me wanting.
*I agree. The Sherman brother's story is amazing. Apparently Ben Stiller is a huge fan of theirs, and was the executive producer on their documentary.

That's very interesting. I looked her up before I saw the movie, so I was able to fill in some of the blanks. Also noticed a couple of references to her personal life, like when someone asked her if she had family and she said something like "it's complicated". I wonder if not knowing the basic details would have made things different, like the surprise when they found out her "real" name. But honestly, how on earth are we supposed to believe that the Disney brothers were after her for 20 years and never knew her real name.
The one fact that I read after I saw the movie was that she spent some years living and working in the US, so the whole culture shock at being in LA was a bit overdone, I think.

Loved it, loved it, loved it. And cried BUCKETS.
Colin Farrell was fantastic. I knew Thompson and Hanks would be great but wow, I would really like to see him get a supporting actor nod.
