Does anyone else think it's kind of weird that they broke the news to Hello! while in the U.S. and not to a news source in their own country?

I thought the rules of succession had been changed to allow a female ruler, hence Caroline's kids being eligible for the throne. Well no, not exactly. By the time it became clear Rainier was nearing the end of his life due to his ill health, panic was about to set in behind the scenes as Albert was still very much the single bachelor with no legitimate heir. And if Albert succeeded, neither Caroline, Stephanie or their kids would remain in line per the old rule; in other words the Monegasque princedom would cease to exist after Albert's death. In order to avoid this scenario, the rules of succession was changed to allow direct siblings and their descendants, including adopted children. But I do think there's still a preference for male heirs nonetheless.

If it's two girls, will Andrea still accede to the throne? My understanding is that the first-born girl would be the heir unless a boy comes along later. That could get really tricky if it's a c-section though. In that case I guess it would be up to the doctor to say who was born first? I dunno. I had twins by C-section and there was no choice in it at all - the baby closest to the incision was born first, they couldn't just have reached further up and pulled the other one out first. The same baby was very clearly "twin 1" (i.e. the twin closest to the "exit") all throughout my pregnancy.

Possibly the dullest planted, possibly fake, story ever: How Monaco's Prince Albert Found Out He Was Having Twins. It's alarmingly normal, too. Hint: by telephone </stage whisper>. I don't especially like him, but this article adds to my suspicion that Albert isn't especially into princing and is possibly the kind of guy who just wants to come home from work and eat grilled cheese and tomato soup.

Double posting in the Princess Charlene thread, woo hoo!: Apparently the Palace doesn't know what would happen in some circumstances of mixed-sex twins and/or surgical births, either. Link to HELLO!. So they're going to make an announcement.

It seems pretty clear in that article, so I don't really see why they need to make a statement. Either it's a boy and a girl, in which case the boy is first in line, or if they're the same sex, then the first born twin is the heir. If it's two girls, then they'll both be shunted down the line of succession by any future boys. I don't see why they're making it seem so complicated.

I figured it was something like DRAMAZ! for the sake of media interest.

Rumors abound on the royal boards that the babies are...BOYS! So, no big deal. First one out rules. Second one is the spare.

And then she never has to have sexytime with Prince Hubby again. Duty fulfilled!
