If the movie covers up to the current time, then yes, they will have to make Robbie look like a normal-looking woman in her mid-40s, hah. Otherwise, mall bangs and heavy eyeliner will get her there for the Olympic years.
But man, at this point I feel like Nancy Kerrigan's story is under told and also interesting: Getting hit with a lead pipe after practice, the bitchery at the Disney parade, basically giving no fucks about making friends with other skaters after her silver, her brother killing her dad... I want to hear more about that. Both women have had a lot of heartbreak, trashiness, and horrible disappointments in life.
Also, wasn't that the year Oksana Baiul won gold? She has had an extreme life, too. From Russian orphan to Olympic gold to spending insane money to DUI arrests and rehab to recovery. Just... damn.

Did anyone see the Nancy interview during the 2014 Olympics? It was really interesting hearing her talk about how she got into skating because of her love of jumps, and then she just sort of fell into the Vera Wang/ice princess role by accident, when really she was a tomboy from a blue-collar background. And she got a little choked up when talking about the '94 Olympics, how her biggest fear was that all the other athletes in the village hated her because she was bringing this giant tabloid media circus with her wherever she went. On the subject of Margot, I can't wait to see her in bedazzled '90s skating dresses. Especially if they recreate Tonya's big crying jag at the Olympics. Bring on the aquanet and rhinestones, y'all!

I heard someone on the radio suggest Allison Williams for Nancy. I thought that could be good.
If they flash forward to present, Juliana Margulies for sure.

I foresee some prosthetic thighs and arm flab in Margot Robbie's future.
Nancy Kerrigan's old coaches say they always assessed how well Nancy would do at a competition by looking at how fat Tonya's thighs and ass were. If Tonya showed up with a fat ass they had nothing to worry about.

That's pretty shitty, and makes me think that Nancy's side wasn't that squeaky clean in the ongoing feud that culminated in a metal pipe to Nancy's knee. I wonder how much bullying Tonya got from Nancy and her team before her husband implemented his backwoods "solution".

I wonder how much bullying Tonya got from Nancy and her team before her husband implemented his backwoods "solution". They (the Scotvolds) said this probably 10 years after Nancy and Tonya had both stopped competing and I believe they said it in one of the behind-the-scenes figure skating books written by journalist Christine Brennan. This wasn't something they were saying to people at competitions. Nobody has ever accused Nancy of doing anything to Tonya except beat her fair and square in competition. There was never any "feud" outside of competition except in Tonya's mind because she was jealous and she always blamed her own failures on others. And what was ultimately so stupid about the knee whacking is that Tonya never really had anything to gain from it. Even if Tonya had bombed out at Nationals, USFS would have put her on the Olympic team with Nancy anyway. And regardless of how Nancy did at the Olympics, Tonya was very out of shape and stood very little chance of medaling against the international competition. It was only in Tonya and her cohorts' minds that Nancy was the big obstacle keeping her from glory.

It was only in Tonya and her cohorts' minds that Nancy was the big obstacle keeping her from glory. That's why I could never be Team Tonya, despite her being a hometown girl for me. She always blamed someone else for her problems, and good-golly do I hate that quality in a person. She had people (like her coach) who tried to help her and steer her in the right direction, but she refused to listen. And yeah - she and her buddies clearly thought that Kerrigan was the problem, not Tonya's lack of commitment to her training, so they thought everything would be golden if they could just remove that obstacle. She had a ton of natural talent, but she refused to put in the work. Those Olympics happened during my freshman year and I was living in the dorms at the time - I came close to feeling sorry for her then because everyone on my hallway was glued to the TVs in their rooms during the long programs and you could hear cheers up and down the hallway every time Tonya fell. But ultimately I didn't feel sorry for her. She was the architect of her own misery and brought so much of this stuff onto herself.

Does anyone remember the funny or die Tonya Harding spoof with Tina Yothers? It came out in the late 90s. It was fantastic.
I think Margot is too pretty and polished to play Tonya, but when has that ever stopped a casting director or executive?

Did anyone watch ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary on the Kerrigan-Harding saga? I think it's on Youtube if you're interested. I thought the narrative was more pro-Tonya than she deserved, but even so, she *still* came across as a toxic asshole who hasn't learned anything 20 years later.
Nancy Kerrigan, I don't know if I'm her biggest fan, but her only real crime seems to be not living up to the good-girl princess image she put forward. Annoying, sure, but not on the level of physically attacking another competitor. I do think it's completely badass that, at the first practice post-attack when they had to share the ice, Nancy pointedly wore the dress she'd been wearing when she was attacked. A pretty delicious, and well-justified, F-you to Tonya.
