This is a new show on SyFy starring Billy Campbell, Hiroyuki Sanada, Jordan Hayes and now, Jeri Ryan. I like the premise. From IMDb: "A team of scientists are thrust into a potentially life-or-death situation in this thriller, which begins with the group being deployed to the Arctic to secretly investigate what could be a disease outbreak." That's putting it likely. Lots of blood, gore and unanswered questions abound. It started off really strong, now it threatens to be overwhelmed by a ton of subplots. I still like it, though. I have a specific question about this week's ep: >>> {Spoiler}Who were the infected bursting through the roof at the end? I didn't think they were that lucid or organized. <<< Or maybe I'm just confusing them with the walkers on TWD, I'm not sure. Also, I was really pissed when they >>> {Spoiler}killed off Dr. Boyle. Her personality was showy and unique, whereas most of the women are more interchangeable brunettes always in distress. <<< Anyone else following this? I think it's on Fridays; I usually DVR & watch on Saturdays. I think I may have to rewatch once the season is over.

Are we TV twins? I feel like we enjoy the same shows. Anyway, I'm totally watching this - i mainly started b/c I'm a BSG whore and this is done by Ronald D Moore.
I'm liking it so far, but I'm also a sucker for scifi/infectious disease shows. I'm hoping the story develops more and some really weird shit starts to happen. So far, it's been enjoyable, but reasonably predictable. I'm an episode or so behind, so maybe I just need to catch up. I hope it gets to the complexity/mythology level of BSG, so multiple rewatchings will be required.

Tried to watch it and couldn't stand it. It's frustrating to see people who are supposed to have masters and doctorates in medicine, various fields of biology, and infectious disease who are supposed to be at the top of their field get things so wrong that they'd fail the most basic biology class. I know they're dealing with a fantasy disease but they could at least try to be accurate with the real world stuff.
- Not knowing the difference between an optical microscope with an electron microscope. - Looking at an animation of a double strand of DNA and calling it a single strand. - "Rabies doesn't change the host's behavior." Uh, yes it does. That's one the hallmarks of rabies. - Talking about harvesting antibodies after 48 hours when it takes about a week for antibodies to develop.
And so many, many more, not to mention the gross breaches of basic laboratory safety and protocol.
These people are all morons and scientific illiterates.
I'm rooting for the virus.

Heh. I tend to do something else while watching, so I miss some of the finer points (and mistakes), but even I picked up on that clunker regarding rabies.
But overall, I'm enjoying the show much more than I thought I would. I'm not usually a fan of infectious disease shows, but there's enough other stuff going on to keep me interested. I have to catch up with the latest ep, though. I forgot Jeri Ryan was showing up.

I last took science pass/fail in college so all the medical-speak sounds good to me. All I know is, things are always about to turn a corner whenever Jeri Ryan shows up. I thought that first outside scene with the frozen monkeys was incredibly creepy (actually, all of those scenes). Which made me think: How'd they get out there to begin with? Did someone well meaning let them out? It doesn't matter, b/c it makes my skin crawl and that's around the time I find myself looking away. I'm also not sure how Peter is still holding on. He seems to have been infected without treatment for a while before his brother got to him. I can't tell if Sanada is strictly bad or just morally compromised, but at least there's one Poc in a position of power. Lots of women but they constantly seem on the run or scared or sick, which IS annoying.

I've only watched the first episode, but the rest are on our DVR. Although, since I read that first spoiler, I'm a lot less interested in this show... They got rid of the only thing I found refreshing.
