I saw this Tuesday. I'm not attached to the "source" material or the director, so I took it in like I would any other big budget sci-fi/fantasy/epic tale that includes CGI creatures and battle scenes.
I liked it. I think it was a good tale about good vs. evil with a big dose of hero angst over what the right thing is in regards to those who are personally important to you, re. family vs. what you think you should do for the greater good. The cast delivered a good performance.
I was concerned that Russell Crowe would be OTT in yet another big character and just be "Maximus saves the animals instead of Rome" but he was very good at showing Noah throughout several years times-span of the story. I was also impressed by Emma Watson, who I am only familiar with from the earlier Harry Potter films. She is a very good actress.
