There are so many celebs who have done shitty things and are forgiven for it, that it really is interesting when a celebrity can't move their image past it.
I guess Pratt needs a better team to spin things in his favor? He should call Ben Affleck's team.

I think people got derailed with the whole "re-homing an elderly pet is good/bad," instead of focusing on why people think Pratt is an asshole. It's not even about the re-homing issue. Perhaps for a few, it is, but he's an asshole beyond that (and other posters here have already mentioned why). The re-homing social media posts were just more fuel for the fire.

I also think he's moved past it fine, his career has taken zero hits from any of this. If it helps, I also can't stand Ben Affleck:)

I agree. The whole reason he can't move his image past the rehoming an animal post is because he is an asshole and hasn't done much to make himself likeable. Either that or embrace it and go full on asshole, which seems to also work for some celebs.
If he had any self-realization, he would just stay off the internet. (Again, look at Affleck his Twitter seems to be run by a PR person).

Lol Chris Pratt seems like a jerk. Oh well. I also just watched Guardians of the Galaxy with my 11 year old. Ben Affleck seems like a total mess and I don't get what JLO sees in him. Oh well. I mean, people still see and celebrate Polanski movies. Nobody's actually being cancelled.

I've only seen Pratt in the Avengers movie, so I'm not even sure how famous he is beyond that or if these stories hurt his career. I know he had a popular tv show, but I think my brain mixed him and Jason Segel up.
Now I am wondering what celebrity has actually been cancelled? They all seem to make their way back to the spotlight sooner or later. I saw a movie ad with Mel Gibson, who seemed to be unpopular for a while. The only "celeb" I can think of is OJ Simpson. I guess Bill Cosby is "cancelled" right now, but if he lives long enough to go on another book tour people will go see him.
It's a lot like how people get all wound up about boycotting a company but that only lasts for a week or so.

Not to go too far into it, but there are definitely tons of celebrities who have been cancelled. Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby. Woody Allen is such a pariah that celebrities who have worked with him are terrified about having to address it. It doesn't necessarily mean that they will never be heard from again ever, but definitely it means a career has been substantially damaged and will never be the same.
I think there are tons of less famous people who have been cancelled for whatever reason and moved out of the public consciousness who aren't going to come immediately to mind.
But I don't know why this would relate to Pratt. He's never done anything to be cancelled. Receiving a lot of votes in a "Worst Chris" poll is not the same thing. The word is thrown around so much it doesn't mean a lot anymore.

Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby. Woody Allen All of these people have commited actual crimes. Their actions caused pain and suffering. Three out of four have faced legal consequences. Chris Pratt made some dumb social media posts, goes to a church people don't like, and may or may not be conservative (he doesn't talk about politics enough to really know for sure). If he's not your cup of tea, the best strategy is to just ignore him. This "worst Chris" stuff and the regular cycle of haters piling on him comes off as juvenile and bullying. If you don't like a celebrity's public persona or creative products, just don't consume it.

I wasn't saying Pratt was cancelled. The talk just made me curious about what celebs had been. I forgot all about Spacey. If you don't like a celebrity's public persona or creative products, just don't consume it. Guess I'm out of this thread then.

There are also a number of celebrities that, while not officially "cancelled," have seen their popularity plummet and have never really fully recovered. Mel Gibson may still work, but he's never gotten back to the status he once enjoyed. Johnny Depp is another one who has taken quite a hit. I wouldn't put Chris Pratt in the same league because he was never really A-List like they were and I also don't think he's nearly as much of a jerk as these two, but it just goes to show that there is a certain point of no return at which it's almost impossible to fully resuscitate a reputation. Charlie Sheen is another one that comes to mind. Lindsay Lohan. Phil Spector. In some ways I might even throw Tom Cruise in this list. He obviously works quite a bit and is still a big name, but I would argue he's never really been able to move his image past the crazy, couch-jumping, control freak Scieno nut who was everywhere during his marriage to Katie Holmes. He's just pretty much gone quiet and stopped trying to play the PR game.
