I wouldn't say Tom Cruise was ever cancelled. He got some bad publicity which has caused him to pull back on his public presence, but he's still making Mission Impossible movies and working with colleagues who speak of him fondly. Being a Scientologist would be a dubious reason for his colleagues to actively boycott him as it resembles religious discrimination. Mel Gibson may still work, but he's never gotten back to the status he once enjoyed. Gibson used to be one of the world's biggest movie stars; he now cannot get acting roles in mainstream movies or attend awards shows without significant controversy. However he's still doing well as a director provided he keeps himself so far in the background that the general public is largely unaware of his involvement.

There are also a number of celebrities that, while not officially "cancelled," have seen their popularity plummet and have never really fully recovered. Mel Gibson may still work, but he's never gotten back to the status he once enjoyed. Johnny Depp is another one who has taken quite a hit. I wouldn't put Chris Pratt in the same league because he was never really A-List like they were and I also don't think he's nearly as much of a jerk as these two, but it just goes to show that there is a certain point of no return at which it's almost impossible to fully resuscitate a reputation. Charlie Sheen is another one that comes to mind. Lindsay Lohan. Phil Spector. In some ways I might even throw Tom Cruise in this list. He obviously works quite a bit and is still a big name, but I would argue he's never really been able to move his image past the crazy, couch-jumping, control freak Scieno nut who was everywhere during his marriage to Katie Holmes. He's just pretty much gone quiet and stopped trying to play the PR game. The most unfair example would be the [Dixie] Chicks, who have never regained the level of ubiquitous fame that they had at the time of the GWB incident. That was not a crime and not even considered a bad thing by 50% of Americans, but that other 50% spoke loudly enough to bring them down. They've maintained a level of success, but they were on top of the world and they've never gotten back to that level. I don't think Chris Pratt has suffered anything at all except a Twitter thrashing here and there. People who don't follow internet celebrity gossip wouldn't notice any dimming of his career based on his body of work.

That was not a crime and not even considered a bad thing by 50% of Americans, but that other 50% spoke loudly enough to bring them down. The Chicks alienated a portion of their core country music audience, but won new audiences. In the 18 years since that incident, they've sold many millions of albums, won the highest awards in their industry, and conducted many successful tours. They are still a very well-known, loved and respected band. They are now the best-selling female band in the US, which is something they achieved after the incident, not before. I wouldn't call that cancellation. I would say Milli Vanilli was cancelled, back in the day before the term was used. They were publicly humiliated, their records burned in bonfires, stripped of their awards, driven completely out of the industry, and publicly shamed to the point that one of them committed suicide.

Now I am wondering what celebrity has actually been cancelled? They all seem to make their way back to the spotlight sooner or later. I saw a movie ad with Mel Gibson, who seemed to be unpopular for a while. The only "celeb" I can think of is OJ Simpson. I guess Bill Cosby is "cancelled" right now, but if he lives long enough to go on another book tour people will go see him. It's a lot like how people get all wound up about boycotting a company but that only lasts for a week or so. It's so weird how people have attached themselves to that term, too-"cancel culture". Celebrities went into crisis mode managing pr before 2005, but I guess the alliteration makes it feel like a recent invention? When someone is shamed out of the public spotlight, it's almost always due to something extremely egregious or repetitive behavior that became indefensible. There's not a rash of people who were cancelled for miswording a tweet. Everyone has become so caught up in not being part of the "woke mob", that we've circled back around to a way worse place.

Not to go too far into it, but there are definitely tons of celebrities who have been cancelled. Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby. Woody Allen is such a pariah that celebrities who have worked with him are terrified about having to address it. It doesn't necessarily mean that they will never be heard from again ever, but definitely it means a career has been substantially damaged and will never be the same. I think there are tons of less famous people who have been cancelled for whatever reason and moved out of the public consciousness who aren't going to come immediately to mind. But I don't know why this would relate to Pratt. He's never done anything to be cancelled. Receiving a lot of votes in a "Worst Chris" poll is not the same thing. The word is thrown around so much it doesn't mean a lot anymore. Two of them are in jail, and sure... jail will cancel ya. I bet Kevin makes a come back some day. Woody is probably done bc his schtick doesn't appeal to people.

I happened upon This video pointing out all the red flags in his instagram post and how Chrisp Rat is probably a covert narcissist. Granted, 90% of celebrities probably have some type of narcissist disorder, but it's still an interesting dissection of the post. I know many people here have discussed the same red flags but she makes some excellent points.

It's possible, but it's probably more likely that Pratt is your garden variety asshole.
