Chris will be fine. He's part of the Marvel of whatever franchise (I don't watch them so no idea) but isn't he Captain America or something? He's definitely an ass, makes tacky comments, and probably hella problematic in many ways but I've realised there's no accountability anymore. People literally get away with murder in Hollywood.
Look at the Travis Scott situation, he actively incited raging at his concert, people died, but he won't be cancelled. Look at Kanye West. He's an atrocious human being, says the worst things, and people still defend him and make him richer.
It's sickening how much celebrities get away with.

I happened upon This video pointing out all the red flags in his instagram post and how Chrisp Rat is probably a covert narcissist. Granted, 90% of celebrities probably have some type of narcissist disorder, but it's still an interesting dissection of the post. I know many people here have discussed the same red flags but she makes some excellent points. Personally I think he’s trying to be Ryan Reynolds. I admittedly don’t pay enough attention to RR on IG or Twitter but isn’t that somewhat of his online persona? Cocky and charming (and somewhat self-deprecating)?

I just watched that video and it was really interesting. The things she pointed out that rung true with me is the post's emphasis was really on how much she loves him and how he framed her as a possession (up there with his prized baseball card). Also, how narcissists can't give someone a compliment without getting a passive aggressive dig in there as well (she chews loud!). Is he a narcissist? Who knows. Until really pretty recently in history, women were literally possessions/property and, in the view of the church, it was a woman's job to provide for all of her husband's needs. So in that sense he's really just reflecting the attitude of his church.
I don't really care about Chris Pratt one way or another. I only know him from Parks and Rec, which I started watching after the series had concluded. It was interesting because I could tell exactly where in the series he got really famous, because all of a sudden he was fit, super moisturized, and had a different aura of smirky arrogance about him. But the character itself was still fun.
I think the problem is that our culture rushes to put people on pedestals and then loves to knock them off. And in real life people are complicated. I have perfect confidence that a lot of the celebrities who have reputations as super nice guys/women have sharp edges in there somewhere and what we're looking at is a carefully crafted PR depiction. From reading Deux Moi blinds, it seems like there are a lot of celebrities who are genuinely nice people and they fly under the radar. I would suspect that if I met Chris in real life he'd be a nice guy. I think the problem comes when stars identify too heavily with their personas, and when there's a discrepancy between the persona and the real person everyone gets bent out of shape. Tom and Lorenzo have pointed out that in this present stage of social media culture, people are losing their media literacy. We should be a little more cynical and recognize that the majority of what stars put out is more collateral to support a personal brand than an honest reflection of the person.

He hasn't murdered anyone! What exactly should he be held accountable for? I'm still not understanding why he's lumped in with Travis Scott, Kanye West, and January 6th rioters. I feel like I'm on crazy pills.
Read this and then read his caption again:
This is a shallow, showboating celebrity who says things for attention. And it worked. It's really not deeper or more troubling than that.

Good lord,I didn't say he's a murderer. I was making the distinction that asshole comments, big crimes, nothing matters in Hollywood. You can be problematic and be fine. You can incite a riot and be fine. There's no accountability on any part of the spectrum.

Buzzfeed has a really good discussion analyzing the causes of the Chris Pratt backlash. It touches on a whole lot of different contributors, like overexposure, disappointment that his marriage to Anna Faris failed, suspicion of the dynamics of his relationship with his much younger current wife, and of course his "conservative vibes" and "red state energy". The surprising thing I learned from that article, which compelled me to look into it further, is that Mark Ruffalo is a bit of a crackpot conspiracy theorist. He's a 9/11 truther. ("I've done quite a bit of my own research.") He's also anti-GMO and loves to tweet links to sources which support his crunchy worldviews but which are scientifically bogus. And he's inclined to frame a lot of issues as conspiracy theories ("follow the money"). The internet worships Mark Ruffalo and thinks he's doing the Lord's work as a liberal warrior on Twitter, which I think is why I have never heard about his Aaron Rodgers side. Also, the article posits that a Chris's position on the "Best Chris/Worst Chris" ladder is inversely proportional to how much he talks, which is why Chris Noth ranks as one of the best. I wasn't aware that Chris Noth is thought of as one of the best Chrises. I well remember how gross, smarmy, and likely problematic Noth was during his SATC heyday. But Buzzfeed is right - he's done himself an enormous favor by keeping quiet and being known almost exclusively for his work.

Buzzfeed has a really good discussion analyzing the causes of the Chris Pratt backlash. It's really interesting that they repeatedly call Parks and Rec "a liberal show" when the other breakout character besides Pratt's was a gun-loving, government-hating Libertarian in the form of Ron Swanson. Yes, a big theme of the show was "government is good and makes your life better" but so was "it's possible to get along with people who have different perspectives and world views than you." Ron and Leslie are BFFs but they couldn't be more different politically and that's the point.

Also currently doing SWAU (Star Wars Autograph Universe) memorabilia signings: Gal Gadot ($350), Chris Hemsworth ($250) and Bryce Dallas Howard ($100). Recently completed: Idris Elba ($300), Natalie Portman ($550 +), Tom Hiddleston ($345). And a host of other lesser-known celebrities associated with SW/MCU.
From what I can tell, Robert Downey, Jr. ($700) is the only one doing it for charity.
It is, though? Is Natalie Portman's egotism also out of control? I am very much not into SW/MCU and all that go with them, but there is a market for this stuff. Because of COVID it's being done virtually, but it's the same prices these actors have been charging for years to do signings at conventions. Needless to say, MCU strongly encourages their actors to do these promos as it's pretty integral to the promotion of the MCU movies.

And ugh, some of the Friends are currently selling merch. No mention of any proceeds to charity. Don’t they have enough money? Seriously.
