Well went to see this one with the girlfriend and I really enjoyed it. It is every minute of 2hrs and 49 mins, but the time seems to go pretty fast. This is basically the story of the earth on its last legs and mankind is forced to look to the stars - other galaxies for hope. It has a lot of heart for a sci-fi thriller and I felt they did about as well as they could with all of the subject matter they had to present. Good performances through and although it will perhaps get a nod there didn't appear to be Oscar baiting or grandstanding - just telling a good story. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the review...did Anne bug or did she do ok? I ask the same thing about McConaghey....was he ok or too "McConaghey-y"? I'm kinda interested in seeing this.

I think they both did fine, the acting was pretty good all-around in my opinion. My issues with the movie had to do more with the "plot" and some truly idiotic dialogue.

I don't think it lived up to its ambition, but it was interesting and didn't feel 3 hours long. One or two scenes went on too long or verged on silly, but not enough to ruin it. It had pacing issues which detracted from my connection to the characters.
The plot conundrums were distracting, but they did pretty well considering the concepts involved. The visuals were not that special, I felt Gravity really benefited from IMAX; this one not so much.
It was more emotional than I would have expected from Nolan, thanks to good casting with McConaughey and Chastain. Mackenzie Foy did a great job. I would probably see it again for the overall experience and mind trippy story.

Pretty much agree with FiggyPudding. Overall, it's a good movie but stumbles in its execution against Christopher Nolan's ambition. Like all of his movies, you have to really focus and pay attention but if you think too hard, you realize that some of the plot points are just a mess. Still, it's better than Transformers!
As far as philosophical scifi epics go, I thought McConaughey's other one, Contact, was far superior.

I love Contact! Neil deGrasse Tyson was interviewed about Interstellar, and he said he thought Contact did a good job with this subject matter.
He didn't give his opinion on Interstellar; mostly commented on the science involved, but he didn't seem to point out any flaws. He probably wants to avoid the attention he received when he pointed out mistakes in Gravity (which he still enjoyed).

I saw it last night and I loved it. It had it's corny moments, but overall the family story was very effective. I loved that the movie was pro science, pro discovery, and pro exploration and showed the possible consequences of "dumbing down" of society.
Also, is there anything more terrifying than a world without okra? No wonder they wanted to get off the planet.

I saw it tonight, and ladybug I had the same thought. Will the loss of okra signal the end?
I actually found the extreme beauty of Gravity a little distracting, and was happy to have plenty of plot to think about in Interstellar instead of just wondering how each shot was accomplished.

I really liked it, but oy, the set up! They could've shaved off a good 15 min, IMO. I thought everyone acted well & Casey Affleck was a (happy) surprise for me.
