I couldn't find a thread for this show yet, and so I've created one just so that I can rant. You have been warned.
Okay, I've been an apologist for this show. Any time someone has said "It's not as good as it used to be", I've said "Yes, but, (fill in the blank - Zooey is still a delight, Schmidt is funny, Nick is dorky, I'm glad Winston is getting more to do, and I love Coach)."
The most recent episode was, in my opinion, one of the worst things I've ever seen on television. Nick pretends to be gay so that Jess's new boyfriend won't think it's weird that they still live together! Winston does stuff for the hot neighbours hoping to get sex! And plot twist - he DOES! (Because apparently those girls would rather sleep with a complete stranger rather than, oh, I dunno - learn how to fix their toilet themselves.) Cece is contemplating breast reduction surgery, and Schmidt is distraught even though they don't date anymore, and somehow makes this all about HIM, and then Cece decides not to go through with it because - why? I have no idea. Maybe she was charmed by him talking to her breasts as though they don't actually belong to her, because that there is just cute as all get out. /sarcasm
I'm disgusted. I'm beyond disgusted. This was offensive as hell.

I thought the latest episode sucked as well for the same reasons. When I was watching it I thought maybe it was meant as an homage to Three's Company and other 70s and 80s sitcom hijinks because the situations seemed really outdated for 2014. The Nick storyline made no sense whatsoever and the Winston story made me mad. I think they should just get Schmidt and CeeCee back together.
This show was a delight back in season one but it's gotten steadily worse as it's gone on.

I am a pig.
I think this show has been consistently awful from episode 1. I just started season 3.
I keep watching for Zooey's bangs and eyes. That is all. The rest is crap.
I hate myself for this.

Vulture had a good rant about how bad it was. It really has gone downhill a lot.

They rely on each actor's quirky schtick to carry things. I like to watch Seinfeld reruns for the humor and situations, not to see Kramer bursting through the door or George throwing a fit. The mannerisms aren't funny unless they're part of a pay off to a good story.

But I am in this show to the bitter, bitter end. Or at least as long as Jake Johnson is still there.

I'm still watching and last night's episode was worth for Coach's line dancing alone!
