I could have sworn there was a thread for this, but I guess the drama over the release was discussed in other threads? Anyway... I recently watched this on demand and really enjoyed it, despite the lukewarm reviews. Then again, I'm a sucker for Seth Rogen. I hate James Franco on principle, but I have to admit he was great in this role (similar to when he played a lovable stoner in Pineapple Express). His scenes with "Kim Jong-un" were hilarious. And I'm gonna have that Katy Perry song in my head for days now...

I actually saw this in the one theater that it was playing in around here a couple weeks ago, I loved it. I love those kinds of movies anyway though. I swear sometimes I feel like I'm a frat boy stuck in an adult woman's body.

I've read a few articles where North Korea experts say a lot of the details are pretty accurate. I haven't seen the movie, though.

Although not my kind of movie I watched it over the holidays with some friends. The Eminem part was by far my favorite.

I thought it was hilarious. Do not go in expecting anything other than crude, lowbrow humor and you will not be disappointed.
I got a kick out of all the Lord of the Rings references, and I loved the way Franco played his character as a dickish yet loveable metrosexual.

Oh, do you have any links chonies? I'd be interested to read those. Avec plaisir! Barbara Demick in the New Yorker was widely cited, and I think I read one in the Washington Post, but I'll have to look back for that. On the other hand, here's a North Korean defector's review: it demeans North Koreans.

Watched it yesterday on Netflix, eh, it's OK. I doubt it would've played long if released to theaters. Even my teen son thought the humor a little too geared to teen boys, lots of farts, anal action, cleavage, cleavage, CLEAVAGE.
I will give them credit for not showing bare boobs during scenes with hot chicks.

I watched on Netflix. I went in with LOW expectations but find myself laughing a lot. Randall Park was especially good.

The Eminem part was by far my favorite. I just saw this over the weekend on demand. Em's part was hilarious and and a brilliant parody. Too bad that got drowned out by the hullabaloo over the Sony hacking.
