It's just so random that it's perfect.

I really loved it, the entire cast was excellent and I was glad the underlying spy story wasn't cartoony or like a tv sitcom. The graphics during the credits were amusing, as was the end-of-credits scene.

Rose Byrne made me snort several times. Her delivery was hilarious.

I'm glad I got to see this this past weekend. I'd been trying to get my friend to go see it with me during the week, but stuff kept coming up- and we were all about seeing Jurassic World once the weekend hit. So we were having dinner before going to see JW Friday night when her husband got a call to go into work. He made us swear we wouldn't see JW without him and then promptly left. But I just turned to friend and said 'Hey, he didn't say anything about us not seeing SPY without him!!' Mission (finally) Accomplished!!
I LOVED this movie! It was so much fun, and also so refreshing to see a movie where the women were as competent as the men (And very often moreso). Given the set up, they could have easily had Melissa McCarthy's character just bungle her way through everything and just save the day through sheer farce alone. So again, it was refreshing that she actually knew what she was doing but just had to put up with hostile (if hilarious) co-workers who refused to take her seriously and fight against playing by their rules when she knew what she was doing.
Even her daffy friend was quite competent if new to being in the field. The only quibble I had was near the mid-point, they introduced a character and he was basically there for her to shout ingeniously scathing and swear-word filled insults at. It was funny once or twice, but after a while it dragged the movie down. I was relieved when she went back to being full on action 'lady spy' and didn't deal with him anymore.
Also, on a shallow note, I loved her dress once she finally took over her own secret identity- but every dress after was about the same. All black, black and more black. I didn't agree with Rose Byrne's that her outfits were so dreadful- but I felt like Joan Cusack in Working Girl in thinking they 'needed some bows or somethin'!' Really, just more variety was what I was hoping for. But hell, in every way except the wardrobe dept. the movie kicked ass and was wildly entertaining. And although I found JW entertaining too once we eventually got to see it, SPY was my fave of the two!!

I thought Rose Byrne's critiques were meant to be kind of a joke--she wore a lot of "slutty dolphin trainer" outfits and I think there was some OTT leopard print and shiny gold, but since Rose Byrne is tall and thin, the joke was kind of flat. I thought the dress Susan wore to the casino was perfectly lovely, while Rose Byrne wore warlord-daughter clothing. But yes! I thought this movie was incredibly fun and have suggested to a friend that I might see it again!

Finally saw it with MMS this weekend. Most definitely worth the price of admission, so thanks for the recommendations in this thread.

The girlfriend wants to go see this but she also wants her daughter to go. Her daughter is 15 years old. Can anyone tell me if a mature ish 15 YO should be watching this? If not what is it that would make it ojectionable? The language, nudity, violence - what gives this a solid R rating? Thanks.

It's mostly raunchy language, and the violence isn't anything that you wouldn't see on network tv in all honesty. It's been a couple of weeks since I saw it so my memory is not fresh, but I'm surprised it's R rather than PG-13. I don't have kids, though, so I may be desensitized. But I think it would be ok.

I can't really think of anything, either. There's the limp-dick unicorn joke, some hand to hand combat, vomit, and a scene where someone sits on someone's face. It's fully clothed, but they remark on it.
It should be okay. Have fun!

I would imagine the film earned the "R" rating for the two brief glimpses of a penis. It was the scene where they were going through the camera of the guy Melissa's character accidentally killed. God forbid penises be shown anywhere! The horror. I think a fifteen year old would be able to handle the movie just fine, and if this would be the first time she saw a penis, then be forewarned--it's above average in size and may lead to false expectations.
