What was the situation the Grace put Caroline in that she could only get out of by marrying? What basically happened is that when Caroline went to Paris to study, Grace used the excuse that Caroline needed a chaperone to get out of Monaco. Each and every morning Grace would go over the tabloids that covered Caroline's actions in nightclubs and yelled at Caroline over the photographs taken and the gossip that spread about her (Caroline). Grace's problem is that she thought for about her position and took it more seriously than Caroline did, rightly on Caroline's part because Monaco to be perfectly frank isn't taken seriously by the other world's royal families. She also kept pressuring Caroline to behave better and act more 'royal' and her position as a historical figure. Grace cared big time about being considered a perfect mother and Caroline's behavior (in Grace's mind) reflected on how the world saw Grace as a mother. The ironic part is that while Caroline was doing great and graduated at sixteen Grace's words were "by their fruits ye shall know them,' as a subtle way of taking credit for Caroline's success because it reflected well on her.

Grace would have been a totally shitty parent to let her wild 18-year-old daughter move to Paris *by herself* to spend every night hitting the nightclubs doing God knows what. Even with Grace there, Caroline still hit plenty of nightclubs and got into lots of mischief.
Grace gets criticized for being overprotective & putting too much pressure on her children not to disgrace the family - but IMO it's a shame she couldn't have done more. Her children were spoiled brats and all three of them have led trashy lives and dragged down the family reputation (which was never on a par with the other royal families of Europe, but was at least not as sleazy as they have made it).

I remember when Stephanie was small and the other two were in their early teens (or maybe preteens--there's a gap between them and Stephanie (I can't remember how much) that she was much laxer with her than with them. She limited their TV time and not hers, etc.
Okay, that's 2 different types of parenting, and both produced kids with no morals. I've read that Grace was quite the slut while in Hollywood. Maybe it rubbed off.

Grace pretty much bonked anyone who could do anything for her and more.
She tried to forget it when she became a Serene Highness and tried to prevent authors from writing about it.
At the time Caroline herself really wasn't that wild. Grace's problem was that she used every excuse she could to get away from Monaco and pretty much tormented her daughter to the point that Caroline felt the only way out was through a marriage with someone who was perhaps wholly unsuitable.

Betcha that Mother of the Circus Tranny, watching from above, has had some second thoughts about that remark.

Hehe.
So many people think Grace wouldn't have allowed it to happen, but to be honest she was incredibly strict about proper royal behavior was and I believe she drove her kids away and into doing some heinous things.
Stephanie would have done this stuff irrespective of Grace's influence. I do wonder how she would have reacted to Albert's illegitimate children. I do remember that Grace was keen to get her nephew Christian de Massy to date and maybe marry Princess Anne (of Britain).
Honestly, Grace was so busy continuing her social climbing that I think she would have had a heart attack at Albert's actions. Two illegitimate kids by two different women.
