The Diary of a Teenage Girl is a 2015 American coming-of-age comedy-drama art film written and directed by Marielle Heller, based on the graphic novel The Diary of a Teenage Girl: An Account in Words and Pictures by Phoebe Gloeckner. The film stars Bel Powley as a 15-year-old girl who becomes sexually active by starting a relationship with her mother's boyfriend. It also stars Kristen Wiig, Alexander Skarsgård, Christopher Meloni, Quinn Nagle, and Austin Lyon. It premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and had a limited release on August 7, 2015 by Sony Pictures Classics.

I've been wanting to see this for a long time, so I rented it from Redbox the other night, put it on... and promptly fell asleep within the first half hour or so. It didn't hold my attention very well. I kept it for a couple of days but never attempted to watch it again, so I had to return it. Oh well.

I read the book years ago and just felt disgusted by it. Very graphic and not in a good way. I'm not sure if it would translate that way to the screen but I wasn't impressed with the book at all.

I wanted to love this movie. But I really disliked the main character. Even the sound of her voice drove me crazy.
