GirlyGhoul, your post has made me want to watch this! Much like you, I was never a fan of Full House but somehow watched enough episodes after school in my youth to remember way too many details. Something about this reboot has piqued my interest but I still wasn't fully on board with watching. Well Mr. Chingaza is out of town this week and I know what I'm doing tonight!

I was never a huge fan during the original run, but I remember watching it on TGIF with my family. My girls discovered this show a few years ago on Nick at Night and loved it, so we currently have every episode saved on our DVR. My eldest kiddo Lulu (almost 8) binge-watched the entire Netflix series this weekend while her little sister and I were out-of-town. As I walked in last evening, she said to me, "Spoiler Alert: Stephanie can't ________," revealing a major plot point. I had to explain to her that she didn't do the spoiler alert correctly.

The original Full House is a thing in my daughter's 4th grade class. The kids watch it and talk about it but lil'ladybug had no idea what it was. "You don't watch Full House ?!?!" So she has asked me if she can watch the original (fine) and the new series (probably not).
I watched the original run when there was nothing else on. Family Matters, Perfect Strangers, the TGIF line up, but I wasn't a major fan. I'm one of the few who likes Kimmy and thought the family treated her like crap.
She also saw Growing Pains when we were staying with family a couple of weeks ago. She asked if we could watch that at our house and got a firm "no" from me. No Kirkles in my house ever in any format. I had forgotten how bad that show actually was.

Was anyone else shocked at Candace Cameron Bure going along with all the risque/"sexual" content?
It's still basically PG/PG-13 humor, but I was still surprised she agreed to a lot of the content given how conservative she is. "Sexy lesbians," double entendres galore, and kissing... Has Kirkles told her she's going to hell yet?

It was a cheesy mess but I still enjoyed it. I also ended up liking Matt more than Steve.

The reviews were pretty harsh. I don't know what critics were expecting - Full House was always cheesy, the kids never really got into any major trouble for the stuff they did (Stephanie reversing a car through the kitchen because she thought "R" meant radio?!?!) and everything was solved with a hug and violins. But I have to say, I finished watching the reboot and I loved every schmaltzy, nostalgic second! Stephanie and Kimmy are really the standouts on the show. I loved their interactions. DJ was a great straight man. Prada, I'm a Matt girl, too. I was half expecting them to do a throwback to the time when DJ had to pick between Nelson and Viper. The kids weren't as annoying as I was expecting. I liked how Jackson and Ramona became frenemies in the end. Speaking of Jackson, that kid took being kicked out of his room really well. And Max is just too adorable. I'm glad they didn't have Tommy do a lot. The baby was around in small doses and that's all you really need. I loved how they took the piss out of the Olsen twins! Kimmy's Elizabeth and James crack had me laughing. Also liked how she would call Stephanie her sister wife. All this to say I'm ready for season 2.

I did a binge watch of all the episodes, and it was fascinating to see how the show found its footing as the episodes progressed.
The first one was a bit of a WTF to me (in a "why bother creating an entire show, why not just do a one-off reunion?" way), although I get that they were trying to figure out a way to revisit the original show and set things up for the rest of the series.
I agree that the expectations in the reviews have been funny when the original source material was never particularly high quality either. I do like how there's a lot of wink-wink self-aware humor in this one. Makes me think the creators are in on the joke.

Joey and his way OTT immaturity still leaves me feeling white-hot rage; even more so now that the character has been explicitly stated to be in his late 50s. There's a scene in "Fuller House" where he's been left in charge of DJ's kids, and it's supposed to be cute and funny that he made an unbelievable mess, yet DJ and the girls (also victims of the horrid mess) don't really seem to mind. Much like Danny never minded Joey's out of control immature fuckery.
Actually, Joey always pissed me off in the earlier incarnation of the show as well. Even as a 12-year-old, I was upset that we were supposed to find nothing wrong with Danny allowing his girls to be around this creepy man-child who just seemed...off, and dare I say vaguely sinister in his revelry of all things so childish. Yes, the Joey Gladstone hate was always strong and is still here.

I'm completely with you on the Joey Gladstone hate, both then and now. Although, he was in the episode where I started actually getting into the show. I loved the girls' night out (She-Wolf Pack 4 Eva!!) but hated the cut away scenes with Joey and the left-at-home kids (Did anyone actually pay attention to the baby during all that time?) DJ would have been my hero for all eternity if she had rightfully tore Joey a new one for destroying her house and then filed a restraining order on him.
That said, I think this episode also helped me work out why I had such hate for the original, but so much love for this one. The first series run, there was no one and nothing I could relate to. I was in High School when it first aired and I ignored it until college when a roommate forced me to watch. So the men were 20-somethings dealing with grown up issues (or not-growing up issues in the case of Joey) The girls were dealing with middle school, elementary school and diaper dramas so I was over it. Plus just the family dynamic had no appeal to me. They were too cute, too perfect, too unoffensive. Everything was so forced and fake arrrggh! I feel the rage welling up even as I type this.
But this series? The girls are now closer to my age group and dealing with the grown up things I deal with. Plus, they let the adult women go do adult things. They speak openly about getting wasted, doing the walk of shame, finding themselves sadly seduced by their cheating husband's 'wiggling'. They don't always have all the answers when it comes to child rearing and admit their insecurities (Although, here's a hint ladies: Never let Uncle Joey babysit!!) Their adult fun is still a bit sanitized, but not sterilized the way it was in the original.
Plus they pay homage to the original not by repeating it, but by practically mocking it.
And when the emotional stuff comes up, it comes from a more genuine place. No manufactured drama for some fake feels. The emotional stuff is more organic here. And the silly stuff is SOOOO silly that it feels like the cast is having a blast with it all.
Oh, and Season 2 is already a go! So there's that to look forward to :-) (Can we petition for zero Joey?)
