I just got back from seeing this and it is a good R rated movie for a change. It is a story which takes place in 1977 and involves a series of murders and an honest to goodness detective story. Both Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling are great in this and play well off of each other. There is also a young actress who plays Gosling's daughter who does a terrific job as well. The 70s fashion, architecture, music and just the whole political scene are very well presented. I would recommend this one highly, but if you want to see it at the theater you better make it sooner than later because I don't think this one will stick around very long because it came in a distant 4th at the box office this weekend.

Saw it last night and thought it was good and a nice change of pace from the constant stream of superhero movies and remakes/reboots. Give it a solid B+. It's basically LA Confidental meets Kiss Kiss Bang Bang meets Rush Hour. It does start to lose steam in the last third and kinda falls apart but the first two-thirds makes up for it. Gosling and Crowe work well together and both have great comedic timing.

I might see this, my severe dislike of Crowe has eased a bit since I watched Man of Steel in which he was in my opinion the best part of the movie.

Haven't seen it, but I saw a billboard ad and at first I thought Russell Crowe was John Goodman and I thought I might enjoy seeing it. When I realised it was not Goodman, I immediately lost interest!

We saw this last night and all the while I'm thinking to myself "Hrmmmm. Russell Crowe looks really good... ...but he's looking more and more like John Goodman every day." Not that that's a bad thing. I liked the movie. I thought it was fun.

TTMR & I saw this today and we both liked it. I was surprised at how much I liked Crowe and Gosling (OMG! birds!) together.

Enjoyed it, but not as much Shane Black's other PI adventure (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang).
Also, Russell Crowe has gotten really fat. My friends and I were like, no way would he be allowed to do that (and get roles) if he were a woman. He looked kind of like a more muscular John Goodman.

I'm late to the party, but...
I really enjoyed this movie. Crowe or no Crowe. I could watch Ryan Gosling in almost anything. I love that the tween daughter was an active character who could take care of herself and wanted to help her dad. And I love that a movie called "Nice Guys" passes the Bechdel Test.
