Anybody else watching the new Amazon series starring Billy Bob Thornton? Burned out attorney turns life around to try to outsmart his old law firm/partner. I said I'd never watch another legal drama after Damages, which I thought exhausted every cliché in the book and then some, but Goliath has managed to turn my head.
I really like it. For once, BBT turns in a subtle and believable performance as a lawyer (all the lawyers are realistically written, actually) facing off against his nemesis, masterfully played by William Hurt, while dealing with a surreal Twin Peaksian undercurrent. All my favorite actors are in it--Molly Parker, Maria Bello, Sarah Wynter--and it gets bonus points for not beating us over the head with Biblical imagery or conspiratorial gobbledy gook. Yet.
