Trailer. Written and directed by Jordan Peele of Key and Peele fame. It's currently at 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. I hope this movie finds an audience, because it is really good. It's not a black movie, or a horror movie. It's a suspense thriller with some underlying social commentary thrown in. It could definitely open a dialogue about race among people. I felt an uneasiness from the very beginning. It was good at building momentum, and casually dropping hints that something sinister was lurking under the surface. I don't know when exactly it hit me, or if I always knew, but at one point, before the third act when the shit hits the fan, I thought I figured out part of the mystery, and I was right. I don't know if that makes me slightly racist or what. It'll be interesting to see what other people think. I saw it this morning, and I'm still floored. I'm super impressed by the script and the direction. This was an amazing debut from someone who's known exclusively as a comedian. However, it's going to make some people really, really mad. Big time mad.

I re-read my post, and I don't think I did. I think I'll remove the possible spoiler just to be sure.

I saw it today and really liked it as well. It is suspenseful and creepy but it is also really funny at times. LilRel Howery who played the main character's best friend was hilarious.
I am so happy that this is getting such great reviews and is on track to be a hit. I loved Key and Peele and think they are both equally talented. But it seems like Key is getting more acting opportunities in part because he is more "conventionally" attractive. So I am thrilled that Peele has found such success as a writer/director.

I saw the trailer for this before Hidden Figures, and watched the link above. It seems to give way too much away about the plot. I haven't seen it, so Tim just speculating, but it seems it would have been better to keep most of the violence and creepy stuff a secret to make it more shocking to moviegoers. As it is, i think I can figure out most of the movie and that's not good. Maybe I'm wrong.

Saw it yesterday and loved it! It made over $32M this weekend so I'm thrilled it found an audience. And ITA about LilRel Howery -- his last line had the whole theater cracking up. Bravo, Jordan Peele!

I'm not a huge fan of horror, and to me, the trailer made it clear it was a thriller. I want to be surprised/shocked at twists and the ending rather than gore and violence, so I'm cool with seeing that upfront! Some of the images are very haunting even though I haven't watched it yet. I scrolled very quickly passed an ad for it on Instagram because I already knew to be scared of that particular character. Also I'm way more interested in this as a movie with a black director and sympathetic, protagonist black lead with a thriller twist and very relevant social commentary. I know the ending and shocks won't make it or break it for me. I'm actually just happy it exists.
