Ireland's abortion law the 8th amendment is officially no more.
President Higgins signed The 36th Amendment into law today. I'm on mobile so no links
Im in an airport so it feels only right and proper to see it off and welcome the new law with a little drop and remember all the women who made those awful journeys outside Ireland for terminations. No more.

Because I'm a winner, I get most of my international news from ONTD posts, and apparently a huge monster names Bolsonaro might get elected in Brazil. He makes Drumpf sound classy:

What are the odds he'll win? According the ONTD posters living there, he's crept pass the 50% mark, and into the low 60s.

I really don't get how anybody can claim that the EU leaders saying May's proposal won't work is unexpected. The EU have been unanimous - for once - in their stance regarding access to the common market, and the fact that for them the "four freedoms" that define it (free movement of goods, capital, services, and labour) are inseparably linked. Great Britain wants to have two of those freedoms (goods and capital) without accepting the other two. That is never going to work, and the media in the rest of the EU have been reporting this ever since the details of her Chequers plan became known.
But then, the cynical side of me thinks that the GB politicians (and large parts of the press over there) are only interested in setting it up so that when the negotiations inevitably fail, GB citizens will blame the big bad EU, instead of the Brexiteers who lied to them about how easy it would be to get everything they want from the EU.

Catalan independence back in the news. I still don't entirely understand what's driving this, but it's been a year, so whatever I knew I've probably forgotten beyond language and culture issues. I'm not sure what they all ~mean in the bigger sense.
