Good lord. Boris Johnson's being mentioned as a possible replacement for Theresa May. He seems like an idiot. Britain's version of Trump?

Wow, A hung Parliament with the DUP. That's not what Mrs May thought would happen way back when called for snap election was it now... One stat I've seen but no link is that voter turnout was about 72% for the young voters and that it was quite influential, (I wonder what % was 1st time voters). editLooks like the Young voter turn out was previously as low as around 40% (therebouts) in past elections since 2001 youth out in full force 2017. I don't think I will find any official voting breakdown stats till next week.

He was a bit of a bumbling idiot who seemed to be able to laugh at himself and seemed pretty innocuous. That's not the case any longer thankfully and people can now see the real Boris. ETA: The DUP in power is going to be interesting- NI is a very forgotten part of the UK but not anymore!

The Guardian is saying it's 218 to 218 Con/Lab! Lab gained 29 seats and Con have lost 24 seats. I hope Drumpf is shitting his pants, but I think he's too much of a narcissist to even notice this election, and too dumb to comprehend what this means. We ALL hope Drumpf is shitting his pants - he's got a lot that would do that these days.

What an epic fail on May's part. It's like the political version of a Darwin award. I'm still pretty much just gawking at the results.
kostgard, I had exactly the same thought. Can May take her snap election show on the road over here to the US??

And yet she addressed the press this morning as if yesterday had never happened. No acknowledgement of the huge Conservative loss of seats whatsoever. She's got the same tone deaf disorder that Cheeto's got, where she can just say something and magically expect it to be a fact.

Can someone explain what DUP is? I've looked on The Guardian website and can't seem to find out what all this means. I wish we had a parliamentary government.

They're a predominantly Protestant party and very conservative. They are anti choice, anti LGBTQ and seem to be climate change deniers.

The Democratic Unionist Party is indeed hard right-wing and populist. They were founded by Ian Paisley, and for decades they had connections to Protestant militia groups. However, they campaigned for a "soft Brexit", as did Labour. This is no doubt influenced by the fact of Northern Ireland sharing a border with Ireland, who will remain in the EU. This policy will put them right up against Theresa May's "hard Brexit" promises.

You'd think with the unionist part of their name, they'd be lefties. I also learned while in London that the blue and red are backwards. Conservatives are blue and Labour is red. I had to keep doing double takes at the election maps.
