So, it's not just happening in the US. Far-right candidates are making strides all over the world. The capital of Pakistan has ground to a halt for the second day over protests about a "rigged election" and jailed President. It all sounds so familiar, doesn't it? I understand Pakistani politics is a whole different kettle of fish than US politics, but what is happening with us and Trump right now is not unique. It's an American-centric idea to think we're the only ones dealing with far-right political beliefs making a comeback. Italy, Finland, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, the Czech Republic, these European countries have far-right political parties in leadership positions right now, and big gains are happening in other European countries. I wouldn't say this makes me feel better about our US political situation, but I'm trying to see Trump in a global context. He's going to be the most powerful of these far-right leaders, but definitely not the only one. What circumstances are creating this push to the right? I'm genuinely curious and trying to figure this out.

The International Democracy Union has give far right parties across the globe the resources and unified social messaging to push the far right movement, making it such a threat. And former Canadian prime minister and Pierre Pollievre mentor, Stephen Harper is the chair. Yay Canada!. Unfortunately, until the rest of us can coordinate and muster similar resources, it will be nearly impossible to fight back.
