I hate to be right in my suspicions. Usually when the family says they won't make any other statements or there's not a health issue/age issue, I'm usually thinking accidental/intentional overdose or by suicide. So very sad. Hate that for everyone who knew and loved him.

This is truly heartbreaking. I hope Ella and his family have some peace as they grieve this loss.

Very sad, especially with his father finding him. No parent deserves that. I wondered about it given the statistics but they seemed very happy two weeks ago. You never can really tell what is going on in someone else's head, even those that seem to have a huge amount going for them.

I'm not surprised Gabriella deleted her Instagram, she probably also shut down any other social media because trolls are horrible and vicious. The last thing the poor woman needs is to be harassed online.

I'm reading (listening to the audio book) A Very Private School by Charles Spencer. Y'all, it is so, so, so sad.
Charles is the narrator for the audio and normally I don't think authors do a good job with their own books but I can't imagine anyone else giving voice to his past.
It explains a lot about Charles, the Spencer family, the British aristocracy, and the class system. It's every horror you would ever imagine about a boarding school.
It's not gossipy--there's a little about Diana and it seems that Charles's memories of her from his childhood are warm.
Charles is a good writer and he approached this memoir as a historian. He contextualizes the boarding school system and its role in the British Empire and he interviewed his classmates. He relied upon his family letters and his diaries to reconstruct the early 1970s.
I'm actually surprised that any of those children shipped off to boarding schools grew up to become functioning adults. It explains Diana's great reluctance to send William and Harry off. And I suspect that the children of William and Harry will not go to boarding schools.
I'm about halfway through.

I think William and Kate will wait until their children are teens or may even give them the choice of whether they want to go or not. Apparently Kate isn’t a fan of single sex boarding schools like Elton which is William’s alma mater.

I remember when Charles Spencer tweeted about the anniversary of the day he was shipped off to boarding school, and the lived experiences of people in the comments were so heartbreaking.

Charles Spencer went at age 8, which is too young, and went to a place where he was abused. Tom Hiddleston went off to boarding school at age 6, and not surprisingly, says that scarred him for life. Kids who go when they are teenagers to a place they like have a different experience. I believe Princess Eugenie said she loved boarding school. Kate herself reportedly had a bad experience at Downe House, but transferred to Marlborough College and loved it there (all speculation since I don't think she's talked about it herself).

Harry really had no business going to Eton. I think he would have done well at Gordonstoun like Zara; Charles should have went to Eton, he was made for it.

My mother and uncle went to a British boarding school. My mother was 15 and my uncle was 10. They were there for a year. For my mom, I think it was like being a camp for a long time. She still has her school badge and is a member of an online alumnae group. I'll have to ask my uncle about his experience. I've heard him talk about it and I didn't get the impression that it was traumatic, but he also knew that it was temporary. My mother does say, "Can you imagine? Sending a ten year old off on a train to go to school!"
My mom does talk about how hierarchical the school was. As an American, she was at the bottom of the pecking order. She made friends with the Irish girls.
