I guess enough of us have confessed by now to watch this little show, so I thought, why not make a thread for it? :-) Season 1 TrailerSeason 2 TrailerWe're three episodes into the second season and things are picking up in its usual crazy way. I enjoyed the first season for all its silliness. The second season is definitely in danger of itself slightly too seriously, but I guess if season 1's mystery is one murder, they have to top it with a serial killer in season 2. Some general observations: the show is really good at having sweet father-son-moments, like in the latest episode between Kevin and his dad. The boys aren't afraid to cry and I really like that. The moms that we see, on the other hand, are generally not coming off too well. The mothers of Veronica, Betty and Cheryl are all basically crazy and psychologically abusive towards their daughters. That's definitely a theme here (yes, I'm trying to see deeper meanings in a show like this). Traditionally, the actors for the teens all look and move like adults well into their twenties, which I guess most of them are. Skeet Ulrich and Luke Perry have both aged but still resemble their 90s-selves ;-)

I actually thought Hermione was a pretty good Mom, until later last season when things "shifted".
So...Moose and Midge survived? Awesome!

Riverdale is my trash show that I love for no good reason. And I kinda love but also hate the modern/unexpected twists that it brought. Well, mostly the "hate" is I'm grossed out at Archie donking his music teacher, but it does fall into the "well, you didn't expect THIS judging from the comics, did you?" that this show loves to pull. Like Kevin cruising the woods for dudes. Or that the heartthrob on the show appears to be Jughead.
I think Archie is the weak link on the show. I mean, part of it is he's the hero and the hero is usually pretty boring compared to the supporting characters. But he's just kind of a dud to me. I want to know what Veronica sees in him other than some admittedly impressive abs. But otherwise, I like what they've done with the characters. I like that girl-next-door Betty has a massive dark streak. While I'm a bit disappointed that Hermione went bad mom, it works for Cheryl's mom, and I LOVE it with Betty's mom. Mädchen Amick is clearly having a ball playing Alice Cooper (heh). And I just kinda love the idea that Shelly Johnson from Twin Peaks moved away (to another town clearly in the Pacific Northwest despite all the talk of maple syrup) and became a journalist/psycho soccer mom.

I haven't caught up this season, but last season was super fun, with old-fashioned ideas mixed with today's pop culture. And such a pretty, pretty cast!
One quibble: Can we see more of Moose, and his late night games with Kevin? Just throwing that idea out there!

I also love how diverse it is! It is so much more fun seeing a Latina Veronica and an Asian Reggie. See Hollywood? You can make a cast diverse and not make it a big deal.
Ok also how old is Pops supposed to be? They make it seem like he's never aging. One of the flashbacks that showed the diner looked like it was the 50s.
Love love love Hiram. Who else wants a flashback special episode showing all the HS shenanigans of the parents?

Ok, so I'm going to speculate that the killer is Betty's secret older brother who's trying to protect her? Why introduce the brother from the comics, unless you're going to do something spectacular with him?

Why introduce the brother from the comics, unless you're going to do something spectacular with him? I like that theory. Goes with the whole "Coopers be secretly crazy" thing too. They made a big stink about how the killer's eyes are green (but, like, Moose, how could you tell in the dark?!). We'll see if there's any mention of Betty's brother's green eyes (not purely a family trait since everyone else in that family seems to have blue eyes).

I mean the killer didn't WANT to kill Archie's dad or Moose, right? Because he has TERRIBLE AIM.

Okay, I'm halfway through the latest episode and I know I shouldn't be looking for logic in the small details on this show, but.....wasn't the reason that Jughead had to go to another school that he was going to live with a foster family? He still lives in his father's trailer, alone. So what was up with that? Also, I remembered that at the end of last season we already saw Jug at his new school, being all happy and popular with everyone. But the show decided to go back on that? Anyway, back to watching episode 4 :-))
