Trailer - From Wiki: A Simple Favor is an upcoming American mystery thriller film directed by Paul Feig and written by Jessica Sharzer. Based on the novel of the same name by Darcey Bell, the film stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively and follows a small-town blogger who tries to solve the disappearance of her mysterious and rich best friend. It will be released in the United States on September 14, 2018. I'm super excited for this movie! I love Anna, but Blake has always been a one trick pony to me. (Has anyone read the book? I read a tiny bit of it on Amazon. I'm curious if it's worth reading before the movie.)

I think Anna Kendrick is the one trick pony but this looks like she might be a little different in this. The guy who plays the husband is cute.

I read a tiny bit of it on Amazon. I'm curious if it's worth reading before the movie.) Just saw this tonight and was looking at Reddit to afterwards to see what everyone else thought. I didn't even realize there was a book, but the majority of those who had read the book really preferred the film. I really enjoyed this and would recommend it. It's definitely not going to win any awards, but it's just a lot of fun and never takes itself too seriously. The audience I was with really made the experience worthwhile too. I think Anna Kendrick did well, but I think that the film suffers when Blake Lively isn't onscreen. I was surprised because I've found her okay as an actress, and I had read that she was getting great reviews for her performance, so I didn't expect her performance to live up to expectations. It did though. They have amazing chemistry together, and I really wish the film had went one way instead of the way it did. Henry Golding has a really hot scene, but unfortunately he doesn't really get much to do at all. Still early reports have this doing well at the box office this weekend, so hopefully it will give his career a boost to be in two big films right now.

I liked it a lot. Hadn't read the book (didn't even know there was one) and "guessed" the twist few times--all wrongly. It was also funnier than I expected.

I wasn't sure about seeing this film now I might give it a try. My double take that Paul Feig is the director! Like the same guy that did Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters. That is probably why it was funnier than expected?

It was funnier than I thought it would be too, the marketing made it look like a typical thriller or film noir when it’s more of a black comedy/noir/thriller mash-up. I agree with whoever upthread that said the film suffers a bit whenever Blake Lively wasn’t onscreen. I was quite impressed by her.
I only figured out one of the twists ahead of time, so I consider it plenty surprising.

I did want to add that Henry Golding is HOT and needs to be in more things.

I saw this one on Friday and really enjoyed it too. It definitely took a lot of turns throughout, so it was hard to guess at what was actually happening. Anna Kendrick's character is what I imagine would have become of Natalie, her character from Up in the Air, 10 years later, a lot of similarities there.
There were a lot of touches of humor, but I also think there might have been some very high movie-goers in my theater because they were nearly rolling out of their recliner seats at every hint of a joke.
I also didn't know there was a book, I might have to pick that up.

I liked it but didn't love it ((ducks)). I realized that I don't like Anna Kendrick, and I thought Blake was a little out of her depth. Henry, though, was yummy. I have a serious girl crush. I loved the soundtrack, and I did think the movie was funny. SPOILER However, if Emily really wanted to 'blend in', her wardrobe should have been completely different. She did everything she could to stand out with that wardrobe. Also, working as the head of PR for a 'major' fashion house is also not a good way of staying in the background I do wish there was more of Rupert Friend. That was my other minor complaint. So, in essence, I think if the leads had been different actresses, I would have liked it a lot more. ETA-You know how most actors say "I loved the script" or "I loved the character"... I think Blake now picks parts based on what clothes she gets to wear. She's got a seriously banging bod, so I get it... but the clothes were OTT in this one.
