I enjoyed the film a lot, but I didn’t think Blake Lively was remotely believable (I cringed when she called Stephanie “baby”), and although I like Anna Kendrick, she didn’t quite fit her role IMO. Someone like Alison Brie could have knocked it out of the park.

Someone like Alison Brie could have knocked it out of the park. Same. The constant cursing and the aggressively dismissive attitude was over the top for me. I liked Anna Kendrick in it, but now that you mention Alison Brie, yeah, she was made for that role.

I liked the film, but I must watch way too many whodunit shows. I figured out things way too quickly over and over. But that didn't spoil the fun for me in watching it. I am going to start slipping SPOILERbrotherfucker into my conversations now. *smerk*
I will say what bugged me was the overabundance of Aviation Gin showing up over 10 times. I noticed it immediately and had to roll my eyes over the Ryan Reynolds product placement. It's his latest endeavor and he's been pushing it in subtle ways these past several months.

I was going to say that about Aviation also! Stood out a lot. Aviation and the constant Louboutins. Maybe a low bar was set from Gossip Girl, but I thought Blake did a great job. Anna Kendrick continues to remind me of baby Tina Fey and Henry Golding is ridiculously attractive. I liked the movie overall but I’m not sure the Anna Kendrick back story plot line needed to be there...

My friends and I just saw this and we had a great time! It was funny, absurd, and great escapism. We laughed quite a bit.
I really like that Emily kept telling Stephanie to stop apologizing for herself.

You know how most actors say "I loved the script" or "I loved the character"... I think Blake now picks parts based on what clothes she gets to wear. She's got a seriously banging bod, so I get it... but the clothes were OTT in this one. Totally! That scene where she was in cemetery with full on side boob and a cane... I loved the outfits, to be honest, but they were ridiculous. Blake was better than expected, but I have low expectations, Anna was good but as expected, and somewhat unbelievable when her character had the transitions to toughness, Golding was good but kind of a boring role, and Rupert Friend should have had a bigger part. I liked his character. Andrew Rannell looked like he's totally pumped up, and that was weird. Overall it was good escapism but pretty generic. I'm sick of the whole genre of 'Stupid woman tumbles into mystery, finds out she has unplumbed depths and solves it". There are so many books like this now, and of course the library keeps recommending them to me (those and YA...) so I keep reading them. Just, can a woman be strong and smart and not be a psychopathic asshole? Please?
