I loved it, thought it was a very sweet homage to the original. My daughter’s favorite movie is the original and she still loved this one too. My son liked this one better than the original (because he thinks OG Mr. Banks is too mean.) I thought the cast was lovely- Emily Blunt really captured the spirit of Mary and LMM is one of my favorite people on earth and he was charming as well.
It was also nice to see a kids movie without violence or fart jokes or a song featuring Pitbull.

I saw it recently and liked it, but didn't love it; thought Emily Blunt was a great Mary Poppins, but (unpopular opinion here) Lin-Manuel's accent was terrible, sounded super-fake to my ears. The characters of Jane Banks and the children were all great, but Michael Banks was annoying.
Full disclosure / I never liked the original MP/

I like parts of the first movie, but overall I think it’s boring and a bit too long. The Step in Time and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious sequences are the only bits I truly enjoy.
I did have more fun watching this than I ever have with the first one, but I do agree that LMM’s accent was distractingly bad. I still liked his performance though because he was clearly having a ball the whole time and his joy is infectious. And they had a whole scene with books! I think the rapping bit of that song was LMM’s best part of the movie.
Meryl Streep’s scene fell flat to me, she was chewing the scenery so hard I thought the set must’ve been made of chocolate. I’m kind of over her.

Each song and sequence in MPR has a counterpart in the original. I find this fascinating, because that's the same as the books. Many (most? all? it's been a long time since I've read them) of the chapters in Mary Poppins Returns correspond to chapters in Mary Poppins. I saw the original Mary Poppins movie when it first came out. It was the first movie I ever saw, at age 4/5. Still love it, DvD's horrible cockney accent and all.

I’m kind of over her. lol, I've been over her always - never understood the accolades and find her performances alright, but not all that. still pisses me off she gets nominated for just about everything regardless of real quality.

I haven’t seen it, but reading the comments makes me wonder if LMM’s accent is an homage to Dick Van xxxx’s cockney ness?

I actually thought LMM's accent was good, it sounded authentic to me, unlike DVD's.

I actually thought LMM's accent was good, it sounded authentic to me, unlike DVD's. Yeah, he was doing cockney, but it was miles better than DVD's--far less aggressive. I liked this movie a lot. It made me smile and I think that's the whole intent of it. Emily Blunt was great as Mary. She channeled Julie Andrews' performance and yet also made it entirely her own. The only thing I felt this fell short of the original is the songs aren't as memorable to me.
