I would also point out that IMO Chayanne and Ricky, as adult men, have a HUUUGGEE leg up in attractiveness and sex appeal over, let's face it, homely Justin and Harry. I know that's shallow but they are pop stars after all.

I've heard it said that if a beautiful woman isn't beautiful at 50, then she wasn't beautiful, she was just young. This absolutely applies to men as well though, and I would put Justin in the category of, I get the appeal he had at 20-ish, but at 40-ish his looks don't work. He never quite grew into a man.
And I think a lot of boyband guys have the same fate. What was behind their appeal when they were young -- their cute boyishness -- rarely becomes manly, which is why they lose their appeal when they're 30+. The only exception I can think of at the top of my head is Zac Efron, who did become very manly (and might have used plastic surgery and/or steroids to get there, if rumors are to be believed). Everyone else is just babyfaced but with wrinkles and grey hair.
Back on topic: no excuse for drinking and driving. None.

I never thought any of those ex-boyband members had solid career legs. (Exception: Ricky Martin and Chayanne, and they're a different musical field.) I would add Robbie Williams and Ronan Keating, but then again I'm in Europe and I think they are way bigger over here.

As an American, I was introduced to Robbie Williams as a solo artist, so I have no history with his boyband.
More importantly, will this DUI affect NSYNC's world tour?

Oh, there was an upcoming tour? That was dumb, Justin.

It's just the cherry on the crap sundae of Justin's fame downturn that he really wanted that cop to feel bad about his tour being cancelled because he's such a huge star.
Even funnier is that the cop didn't know who JT is and he was actually doing his job of protecting the public from a drunk asshole behind the wheel.
Karma's a bitch, and this happening to PAB is just *chef's kiss.

There was no *NSYNC tour and Justin’s own tour has sold out all his dates so far.

So few of them make the transition to an adult career. You stop being cute, and you've been typecast as Lizzie McGuire or Steve Urkel to the point where people see you as them twenty years later, which makes it really hard to move to adult roles.

I think the boyband pop star/ teen idol scenario is very accurate. So few of them seem very ....conventionally attractive as they age. It must be extremely odd and uncomfortable for them. I don't like saying such things, but I really never found J.T. to be attractive or appealing even when he was younger. He may have had....charisma when young, but for lack of a better phrase he always seemed like an arrogant twat waffle. Kathy G. mentioned in one of her books that he was not the kindest to Britney, and I absolutely do not deny that all of them have issues, but I would not be surprised if he was the biggest douche lord.
