Seeing as I get to see US chat shows over here I thought I’d let you in on one from here. The Tommy Tiernan Show (he plays the Dad in Derry Girls / well known comedian here) The idea is he doesn’t know who his guests are until they come on, some are well known to him others may just work in very different worlds and have interesting tales to tell. with Sinaed O Connora snippet with our President Michael DThese two above were before Covid now there is no studio audience and it’ works even better as Tommy isn’t afraid of the silences in conversations which these are, some on the show almost feel like we are eavesdropping on private chats. The show has been given 6 additional episodes it’s been so well received. Here’s two more well worth watching. Brenda Fricker (Oscar winner, My Left Foot) love her at the Oscars story. Actor Stephen Rea in which he speaks of his wife a subject he rarely has touch on before.

This is an unforgettable live Irish tellybox chat show moment that I remember seeing at the time The Late Late Show with Gay Byrne was an institution here, live television at its best, worst, controversial and everything in between at a time when we had maybe at most 6 channels and at least two. This was live in the moment incredible tv Trigger warnings galore, a rollercoaster of humour, shock, a telly competition for a car, grief, live reaction, poet Brendan Keneally and a nun all live from a long time ago Rita.
