I never cared for him but Travis was very big in hip-hop…that’s why he even managed to get with Kylie. People on here are not in his demographic. Definitely not my demographic, I'm not into mumble rap which is what I associate him with To clarify, I meant, I'd heard of him, wasn't into his music. He's more famous to me as Kylie's BD. Sadly, the Astroworld fallout gets worse. The death toll is now up to 10, and the latest person who passed was a 9-year-old kid. It's devastating. There's a video of a mom crying and talking about her daughter who passed a few days ago - do NOT go looking for it. The heartbreak will ruin your week. I'm following this story anxiously because I really want him, the concert people, whoever was involved to be held accountable. He carried on playing 30 minutes after he was told to stop the show apparently, and could see people being carried out on stretchers.

I live in the Houston area so it hits home. I’ve been trying not to look too much at the news because I just couldn’t handle it in the past week. These poor families.

Maybe Travis should get his own thread?

I heard a brief audio clip of the blood-curdling screams of terror that were going on and I think it was worse than anything I've ever heard.
Travis Scott played his part and bears a portion of the blame, but I think it's important not to forget that LiveNation and the venue bear a huge and probably even bigger portion. The planning, safety preparations and execution of the event were appallingly negligent and Scott had input on those things, but not unilateral control.
Yes, Scott kept performing (for example), but there was nobody there to pull the plug on him and enforce crowd control -especially knowing his history ahead of time. Security was understaffed, untrained, and given more instruction ahead of time on how to keep quiet the existence of "smurfs" (people who had turned blue and died) than how to keep anyone safe.

I can’t get over that cameraman who just completely ignored the people screaming at him that there was a dead person in the crowd. I mean, I guess there’s lots of crazies, drunks, drugged people who bother them, but still....

Yeah, there's that one video of the kid in the white T shirt who was shouting up at the camera-man about what was happening in the crowd. The guy literally just went, eh and went back to filming.
I don't even know who's culpable at this point but I'm furious at Travis because he's the guy on stage with a microphone, egging his crowd on. If anyone's in a position at power at that point, I'm pointing fingers at him. "Raging" and inciting a crazy atmosphere for what? Now you got 10 dead bodies on your conscience. Right now it's hard to know how or if that even affects him. I can't get over that video of him inciting the crowd to "fuck him up" when the kid stole his shoe so my hopes aren't high that he's a good person.

And he's got form- this isn't the first time he's incited the crowd. Lollapalooza 2015, Arkansas 2017, the fan who got shoved off a balcony when he was encouraging people to jump that same year. It's not like it's a surprise to him when crowd surge happens.

I'm not a fan and couldn't name a single song of his...but...do his fans know this about his concert history? If so, why in the world would you bring young kids to one of these shows? "Raging" notwithstanding, are his lyrics even appropriate for a 9 or 10 year old? And I'm assuming there's a good amount of drug use going on? I feel like there is such a lack of common sense in this country.
But maybe I'm just the odd person out, as going to a standing room only, jam-packed concert like this hasn't appealed to me in years. They seem to attract problems, from shootings to COVID spread and now this. I was once caught in a surge situation at a college basketball midnight madness event. The arena had everyone packed like sardines in the atrium area, and there were people out there pumping up the crowd before the doors opened. When it was time to go in everyone pushed forward. It was highly claustrophobic and terrifying, and I nearly got knocked down. I've never wanted to put myself in that situation again and I definitely can't imagine taking my kids to an event like this.

"Raging" notwithstanding, are his lyrics even appropriate for a 9 or 10 year old? I couldn't tell you one of his songs either, but he's a huge star among tweens and teens. He is marketed specifically to this age group. He has endorsements from Fortnite (video game that is all the rage), McDonald's, and Nike. He's got a Fortnite "skin" (don't ask me what this is) that's an image of him in the game and there is a product tie-in with a Fortnite Nerf gun. He also does Fortnite events. I don't know how much the parents were aware of his reputation at concerts, but he is marketed to kids, and is a huge star to that age group. There were also carnival rides and stuff set up at this music festival. So, I'm not surprised that kids wanted to go to this event or that their parents took them. We don't know if these folks knew about the past incidents at his concerts. They just hear their kids asking them to take them to see the guy from Fortnite. Parents taking their child to see their favorite artist should never entail fear of violence, injury, or death.

The sad thing is the father who took his son there was acting responsibly, the child was riding high and safe up on his shoulders. Unfortunately it was the father who got asphyxiated and passed out, and the child fell.
