So I've been watching USGS videos of Kileauea to relax. Literally watching a volcano erupt to calm down. We are in such a situation that watching molten lava bubble and splash is soothing.

I guess I don't understand the hesitation (except that it may be bad for their careers) for Congress to do something ASAP to get Trump out of power. He put all of Congress in danger. He incited a riotous mob that took over a government building. I'm not really sure what more needs to happen. I think not doing something is dangerous precedent for future actions. I mean, what more could be more "law and order"?

Trump won’t let Pence’s Chief of Staff into the WH, because he believes he’s the one who advised Pence to, you know, follow the law.
So things are going well there.
Meanwhile, Hannity, Carlson, and Ingraham, in addition to known idiot Matt Gaetz are all trying to claim that it wasn’t actual Trump supporters in the Capitol today, it was Antifa in disguise.

Just heard four more people died in the riots. News outlets are reporting that four people died. The one we know is the woman shot inside the building by a plains clothes Capitol Police officer. The other three - one woman and two men - are just listed as dying “around Capitol grounds” of “medical emergencies.”

Four total is what I heard- the woman who was shot, and then one additional woman and two men died from medical emergencies. That seems like a very high incidence of medical problems during a single fairly small gathering.

I will always call him "Matt Putz" because that was what NJ governor Phil Murphy had called him. Gov. Murphy was mad that this senator had the nerve to hold an indoor event in his state while proudly maskless. Tweet re: more words from Chris Christie:I dunno why Chris Christe would be surprised. Trump didn't care about creating an environment in which he (and others around him) were like the Typhoid Marys of COVID. He obviously didn't care about the safety of anyone around him; why would he care about the safety and integrity of the country? ETA: They are flying through certifying states' electoral votes now. Pennsylvania is up soon! ETA 2: As expected, there is a written objection to Pennsylvania's votes, so both houses will withdraw to debate the objections. ETA 3: The four living former presidents have issued statements, expressing disappointment about today's events.

Chris Christie should have bailed on Trump when Trump threw all of his carefully designed transition plans into an actual dumpster.
Christie was probably the only one in Trump’s orbit to have the qualifications and experience to grasp how important a smooth transition was. Everyone else just assumed they could wing it.
I was listening to Alyssa Mastromonaco on Pod Save America. She has a new YouTube series on the importance of transitions. She and her guest discussed how the Obama administration prepared three scenarios for the Trump administration. The scenarios were:
1) a hurricane 2) a cyber attack on infrastructure 3) a pandemic
Every single one of those things has happened and every Trump decision has made them worse.
If they had just kept the Obama binders and done the bare minimum, Puerto Rico might have electricity, we might have an idea of how far the Russians have encroached into our systems, and thousands and thousands of people might still be alive.

Being reported in Tulsa:
Again, I do not understand how people can watch Trump throw everyone under the bus and think it won’t happen to them, so they hop on his bandwagon.
It does happen to them. Every. Time.
ETA: The WH Deputy National Security Adviser resigned, citing Trump’s action today as the reason why.

Michael Lewis' book, The Fifth Risk, covered the transition from the Obama to Trump administrations. linkFrom Wikipedia: The Fifth Risk is a 2018 non-fiction book by Michael Lewis that examines the transition and political appointments of the Donald Trump presidency, especially with respect to three government agencies: the Department of Energy, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Commerce. The book spent fourteen weeks on The New York Times non-fiction best-seller list. A lengthy excerpt from the book was published twice by The Guardian, using a quote from a top adviser to Trump in the title.
Barack and Michelle Obama acquired the rights to the book for an upcoming Netflix series about the U.S. government. The comedy series, titled The G Word with Adam Conover, is "loosely inspired" by the book, and production is scheduled to begin in 2021.Basically, the Obama people waited around with binders of material, waiting to meet and pass the information on to the Trump people. The Trump people, who did show up, were like, we're good. I wonder if the binders are still around?
