This is an interesting side-by-side video of the marine traffic video and the accident, in real time, with a knowledgeable commentator. It is astonishing to me the police were able to stop traffic on the bridge so quickly. The driver on the semi that got over the bridge just before the Dali hit is the luckiest person on the planet, I reckon.

I live in Baltimore. It’s such terrible news. I can’t imagine - that poor crew. I’m amazed they were able to stop traffic; even at the early hour, it’s quick coordination in mere minutes to mobilize that quickly.
The impact will be felt for a long time. I’ve read the port will be closed for several weeks at minimum, with thousands out of work. Thank god we have Biden in office and he’s immediately pledged federal funding with cranes on the way. 45 would have just made disparaging comments about the city (again).
They’ll need to figure out a route to allow the existing ships to pass the accident site, eventual bridge and highway rebuild, etc. Baltimore also has 100+ cruise stops annually, which are likely all rerouted or canceled.

Pete Buttigieg started in an interview that the Army Corp of Engineers and cranes are on the way to get the bridge out of the water to get the channel open one way, then work on getting it off of the ship and stabilize the cargo so they can tug the boat and get it open to two way traffic.
I believe cruise ships are being rerouted to Philadelphia and Norfolk, VA…

I heard on the news that some of the containers fell into the bay and may contain hazardous materials such as lithium batteries.
My heart goes out to those poor workers and to Baltimore.
I personally want to bitch slap Maria Bartiromo for bringing up THE BORDER while commenting on this tragedy. I refuse to call her a reporter.
Her father owned and operated a catering hall in Brooklyn. I'm sure he had some immigrants working there. (My mother worked with her mother. Mr. Bartiromo was a very nice man.)

My son in Brooklyn and niece in Philadelphia both did. Suddenly the exposed brick walls in my kid's apartment don't seem so charming anymore!

Family members of mine felt it in eastern PA. My husband works in Baltimore and felt it. I'm in central MD and didn't feel anything.

I was on a zoom call with my brother (Brooklyn) and sister (Queens) when it happened. Their cameras were shaking and they said it felt like when a subway train passes right underneath your feet. They had no damage.

We had 95% totality here. It was cloudy and unremarkable. The birds went berserk and the cats and dogs were clingy. I have a headache.
I’ve lived through several eclipses and never once seen anything because of cloud cover. Some of my friends just went inside and watched it on TV.
