There was a report on Mother and Baby homes in Ireland this week, there’s links in the old thread if anyone want to read. There was an apology sorts from the current government today, it was lots of words but it seemed to me put it on society of that time, but that society was doing the Church supported by the State bidding. Women were shamed by their families because the families were shamed from the pulpit Powerful front page from a National newspaper whose roots are in County Cork Their print front page dedicated to the children who died in one Cork city home. This front page is One home, One... May they all Rest In Peace, but know their loved ones have yet to reconcile and find anything near peace.

Holy shit, that page is powerful. All those lost lives because they were products of "sin".

The one home has a reported 800 children buried in the sewage system. If it's a sewage system, I don't think you can call it buried.

They didn't have the humanity to give those children a decent burial. One good thing that came from bringing these horrors to light was it really seemed to break the hold the Church had on Ireland. If these people of God were capable of being so unlike Christ, why fear and follow them? Since then, marriage equality has become legal. ABORTION, for God's sake, has become legal. It's like Ireland drew a breath of fresh air and said "Enough."

It's like Ireland drew a breath of fresh air and said "Enough." Yes on one hand Ireland has moved away from the church in droves but the Church still has its more subtle hold, eduction over 90% of primary schools and 50% of secondary schools are under Catholic patronage. Policy on school patronage has been changing in recent years. What the church did to our women was criminal and yet the church still holds title to a lot of land, where hospitals, schools, convents etc stand no seizing of assets from them. And tho the State has given its apology there has been nothing from the church to these women bar from the Individual Nuns from the Tuam Baby Home( the Home where 798 babies remains found dumped in that tank) I’ve never seen them apologise before’: Hero Tuam Mother and Baby Home historian Catherine Corless on apologies from religious orders And Catherine Corless is worth reading about, she single handily researched and went about identifying each of those 798 to give them back the dignity of their own name. A link to articles about Catherine Corless and her work, if anyone wishes to read, She is a tireless hero in this.

I am LMAO'ing at all the hedge funds losing money because of a bunch of people on a message board learning how the game of short selling is played.

A few of my friends bought Game Stop stock with the intent to sell it and make money. I told them to hold tight because now it isn't about making money, but teaching hedgefund managers a lesson (my friends can afford to take a loss. I obviously wouldn't be suggesting this to them if I knew they were strapped for funds).
I've learned so much in the last 4 years from politics to infectious diseases and now the stock market.
